Found this place on the way home from a girl's weekend. The restaurant is in a beautiful location, but the entryway with the stairs smelled so bad walking in I thought I might turn around if my friend wasn't with me. It was crowded but we quickly found a spot at the bar. The server was frazzled but warmed up to us pretty quickly. The bloody Marys were simple but good, especially the pickle. We ordered Reuben's and seasoned fries that were delicious, however, this is where our meal took a turn.
There was a huge group of regulars standing directly behind us. As soon as we arrived, one of them kept hitting on me and eventually got sleazy ("you look like you'd be a generous lover"). Next another regular started asking for fries off my plate while ordering beer from the bartenders. He proceeded to take fries off my plate, not once, but three times. On top of that, Mr. Sleazy continued his unhumorous, and disgusting statements to me, once whispering in my ear. The issue here is that the bartenders, plus someone who said he was 'just washing dishes' but was apparently the owner, completely ignored the situation. They saw what was going on, and it was obvious I was not amused. I am a super-friendly sort and we were trying to be good-humored at first, but it went on far too long. I work in the industry, and we are taught to stop incidents like this from occurring.
Sadly, we will never be back. Owners, teach your crew to take charge when your regulars, or any customer for that matter, are harassing other customers, especially two women traveling...
Read moreWe were there this week, first time. This is basically a supper club, but in its own way! First, the entryway is a long ramp - if you need wheelchair access this looks nice. You enter at the bar, like many supper clubs and it's comfortable and inviting. There are a handful+ of decent beers on tap, some local some not, like Guiness (very creamy!). The dining areas are split into three levels and it looks like it works well, esp. to close off one area from another.
Now the really important things. They do great supper club fare. At our table we had a mix of salmon, prime rib+shrimp, ribeye, and bluegills - all were really good. Wa started with onion rings and crabcakes which were also things I will order again. I had the salmon which was well prepared with broccoli which was perfectly done.
Finally, but certainly not least, the service was tremendous. We've all had good and bad service. These folks know what they are doing. Bonnie, our server, was really special. It's obvious that she likes what she does. She was fun to interact with and was quite helpful despite the busy time.
Be sure to ask about "Amber's Coffee" (Amber's another server, likes strong coffee). We didn't have any, but apparently, a couple slices of that and the brain fog will clear.
We will go...
Read moreUp from a Ohio, we decided to come visit a friend and she suggested that we order a Wisconsin Fish Fry. Not knowing what that was, she knew the place, The Green Lantern at McFarland. So we ordered some over the phone, and the wife and I decided to go down and pick up our order.
After driving down, we saw that it was pretty busy, and we understood that it was busy. I went in, and when I entered the bar was full and there was a line to be seated— obviously busy and loud. At the bar, I saw people being given to-go orders. So I made my way to the bar. Standing there, I waited TWENTY minutes for the bartender to even come to my side of the bar.
Trying to get the bartenders attention I said “Hey” and tapped on the bar. The bartender was incensed that I tapped the bar, and said I was being rude by tapping on the bar to get his attention!? It was a loud enough tap to where he’d notice me. I told him that I had a to-go order and asked if he wanted our money… or we could go to a different place, as I’d been standing and waiting for twenty minutes to even have him grab the order.
Dude tells me “I don’t do that, the front does that.”
Long story short, it ain’t worth the fish we got. The fish was okay and my wife’s ribs that she got weren’t great. I’d suggest Toby’s Supper...
