[edit] 10-13-2016 Took a my stars down. I'm a huge fan of their deep dish pizza which, if you know anything about pizza, isn't even close to a deep dish. It's just a normal hand tossed pan style pizza but whatever, the crust was thick and excellent. They changed it. Their "deep dish" crust is no more than Angelo's Pizza's normal crust. It floppy and it just outright sucks. Whole reason I didn't order Angelo's was because the crust. Their sauce is significantly better tasting but Spartan just always had the better crust. Now they don't. I don't know why they'd change it but bleh.
I just moved to McFarland a few months ago, and to Madison about 3 years ago. I'm from Rockford, IL, and while the city is a dumb and you probably shouldn't go near their tainted air, one thing they do right, and anyone who has experience with the city knows this....is the pizza in Rockford is amazing. Most places are owned my small Italian families who know what they're doing, not like the garbage "american" franchise places like Dominioes, Pizza Hut, Pizza Pit, Glass Nickle etc.
So too long didn't read, I'm a pizza snob. Since moving to Madison it's rare I find any pizza around that's really worth the price, even worth the time. I found Falbo's in Monona (McFarland location doesn't know the difference between sausage and ground beef) which is pretty good but has bland sauce. Falbos is alright but not worth the price.
Spartan Pizza though...I have a top 3 places in Rockford I love. Spartan replaced #2. The toppings were not skimpy at all, they weren't small, weren't dry....just ammaazing.
Crust is a huge thing, I got their pan and it was perfect.
Sauce, could spike up a tid bit but it was rreeeally delicious.
Staff? I only been there once and when I got there was an older gentleman and lady and they were both super friendly.
I'm about to...
Read moreMy SO and I have ordered two pizza from here so far - the BBQ bacon chicken and the buffalo chicken - and we have not been disappointed so far! The crust is thin, but not TOO thin, and is cooked well enough that it has that cracker crunch to it that we just love. Toppings are piled on so it's a very filling meal. FYI be sure you read/ask for topping description - the buffalo pizza wasn't what we expected, but it was delicious none the less! No issues with ordering and staff is friendly. Only disappointment (and why I took a star off) is that they don't have a way to order online and don't deliver, but that will keep me from ordering every night so it's probably...
Read moreI had the “brat pizza” it sounded SO different…and it was in a really good way! Dill pickles and brats on pizza? It sounded like my kind of weird…sooooo 👍 I wished I had ordered a larger size to have some left over, the cheesy garlic bread was excellent as well. I’m knocking off one star because I ordered a “side salad” and the lady called telling me they only had “pizza toppings” for their salads so I ended up with a small container of iceberg lettuce with black olives on top. That was kind of a rip…but it IS a pizza place not a salad place so to speak…and that pizza was the bombdiggidy. Absolutely try this pizza...
