Mellon's Pub — Restaurant in McKeesport

I stopped at Mellons for the first time Sunday 4/18 I was looking at a property I'm thinking to buy. I figured I'd have a beer and watch some of the Pens game. I am not a level 6 reviewer but to call this place a dive bar? Really?

These are my first impressions. The place is well lit but not overly bright where it hurts your eyes. The place is CLEAN. no dust bunnies under the arcade machines or spider webs in the corners. The bathrooms are spotless and smell fresh. A good verity of draft beers and microbrews in the bottle. All the national brands and well stocked. I guess they couldn't make a pink Squirrel for the other review.

I went for the bag of pretzels instead of the Lobster with Truffle sauce and they were fresh. if you've ever been to a dive bar you know the risk you take with bagged snacks. However, many people stopped in just to order food and have a beer. With so many choices they chose Mellon's Pub food so it can't be all that bad. The food smelled enticing. I lost track of the number of take out orders the short time I was there..

All and all what makes a great bar is the people who go there. I was there less than 5 minutes and was talking to other customers. The people working there and patron Mellons are very friendly. It's a place where you could go to dressed to the Nines or a Tee shirt and feel comfortable. Oh, and there are TVs everywhere. You'd have to work at it to not be able to view a sporting event.

Like being in a B-rated movie of bars. Food was average at best while still being overpriced and they have signs posted (cheap computer print outs) of long demands about their ordering wings lol. Paranoid business practice. Meanwhile, the service was very slow even though their wasn't hardly anyone else in there?

Floors, counters and even napkins used as coasters for drinks were dirty/sticky/ and unpleasant. The easiest job in the world in janitorial work 😂😆😂😆 which they fail at. I question the regional health inspector?

I was on the fence about writing a review, but seeing how ignorant the owner is by insulting everyone who provides constructive criticism in their feedback on all the things which could be improved. That motivated me in typing my experience being there. The moment they get sued when a patron is hurt in their bar for lack of upkeep and the attorneys see this ignorant asshat remarks which exposes them in gross negligence lol quite possible criminal neglect will be bitter sweet.

Some confusion on Sunday night. Came in as usual and ordered a Baccardi and coke.

Server wanted to give me a small glass, and then put an opened coke into my drink from the cooler. I don't know where that coke came from. I told Jeremy that my regular server gave me the can, because I would always get 2 shots of rum for each can of coke.

She said, "that's why she isn't here anymore".

I has one drink and left. No reason for this...

I think you misunderstand. I always bought 2 shots for each can of coke, just not at the same time. It's the same thing overall. I just don't like a TINY drink.

I go to 2 bars regularly in the area that give me a can. Those with a tap give me a16oz glass with a lot of ice.

I have been getting it that way for the last 20 years, all over Pittsburgh.

We really miss the draft beer.

Not trying to run your business, just my experience and preference.

And yes I do get a can of coke from some local places, or at least a 16oz coke from the gun, with lots of ice.

Not a fan of small mixed drinks.
