We’ve been here more than a few times by now and I’ve gotta say the first few times were pretty hit or miss for me. The tacos were dry, the bowl I got was underwhelming compared to a similar one I’d tried at Applebees (which isn’t a great comparison for ).
However, we really like their taco nachos appetizer (with ground beef) and now that I’ve tried a different taco (choriqueso), I think I’ve definitely found my go to Mexican restaurant. I LOVE the vibe indoors, the staff is super quick, and there’s one woman in particular who is truly superb. She’s never been our server before but she’s almost always the only one who comes by asking if we need refills, if we need extra napkins, if everything is good etc. That woman looks like she’s working double time and I can’t say enough about her! The rest of the staff have also been great, absolutely no shade on them. There is also never a long wait, for a table or for your food, yet they’re almost always busy!
My one ongoing complaint is the inconsistency of their menu. It seems like every time we go we’re given different options despite the menu descriptions. I believe the menu shows either beans or beef for the taco nachos but the first time we went we didn’t get an option, the second time it was either ground beef or chicken, and the most recent time we got them it was chicken or shredded beef. And with the taco platter (3 tacos with a side of rice and beans), they’re all soft tortillas with your filling choice and then just onions and cilantro piled on high. I had ordered that to go one time and received hard shell tacos with all the fillings including lettuce and tomato instead of the soft tortilla as expected. I don’t dislike a good hard shell taco but I felt like the way it was prepared took too much away from the important part which was the choriqueso.
I’m also disappointed that I’m always too full to try their desserts! This is a good problem to have though LOL. I’ve tried just one dessert and it was the flan, which I typically really love a good flan. Maguey’s flan has good flavor but is just too dense in texture for my personal taste. Looking forward to hopefully one day trying their fried ice cream!!
Overall I’m pretty pleased with this place and given how hard it’s been to find an actually decent Mexican restaurant here in Medford so far, I will definitely be glad to call this my go to spot for...
Read moreExceptionally fast, my to-go orders are usually ready after 5 minutes. Polite service. Very clean restaurant.
Nachos are big enough for 3 people.
The taco chips are actually 4 crispy tacos cut in half. They were served on a bed of lettuce with guac on the side, melted string cheese, and a tiny drizzle of red sauce. I found them very filling and couldn't finish them. I got ground beef and they were very bland. But, for $8, this is a great option if you want to get full without a long pickup wait. As a la carte, that's $12 worth of tacos off the menu.
The Traditional Burrito makes a huge mess but it's incredibly delicious.
The Taco Plate is usually excellent, but the taco shells always fall apart. I've had it in fish, Al Pastor, and carne asada and was very happy. However, I most recently tried the pollo asado and was extremely disappointed. The chicken had absolutely no flavor and was rubbery. I only ate the rice and beans and threw the tacos away, and ate McDonald's chicken nuggets, instead. That's how bad it was.
The chicken Enchiladas with molé is the best thing I've ever tasted in my life. I'm not sure I can try anything else on the menu for a while.
Eventually, I decided to try the Carne Asada Molé fries. I wasn't into this so much. The Asada was so fatty I couldn't eat much of it & the molé tasted like sweet tomato ketchup, instead. This is weird, because I've had the Asada & molé many times & they've been perfect. The fries were cooked perfectly, though.
The menu says they have chipotle salsa, but the waitress told me they don't have it. When I asked for the salsa cup that comes with the fish tacos (as advertised as chipotle,) they said it was a special sauce & would not add it as a side for me. Lowering my service rating explicitly for this reason, as paying extra was not...
Read moreI came in to have dinner tonight and everything was fine until the two (im guessing teenagers) up front wouldnt stop talking very loudly about getting back at one of the adult hostesses for whatever reason they had. I couldnt concentrate on my meal because every minute or two when the other hostess left they would start going off about her. i understand disliking a coworker. But to make vague threats and cuss up a storm about them while they are standing 10 feet away from customers is totally unprofessional and frankly concerning. Ill give it a second chance because the food was exceptional. But that behavior was abhorrent. Totally unprofessional. If i were to speak lile that at my restauraunt even if it was in the back. I wouldnt be working there anymore. Let alone if i did it basically standing in front of a guests table. I would rethink the employment of those two. Extremely distracting. If i wanted swearing screaming teens at dinner. I would...
