Arthur's Restaurant — Restaurant in Mentone

We came to Arthur's with high expectations! They advertise the best chicken, fried steak and biscuits and gravy on their billboard outside.

We ordered the cinnamon crumble coffee cake which was pretty good, although the butter was cold so it didn't melt properly. The waitress immediately offered to get us melted butter which came in a small ceramic container. That was fantastic! Be sure to order yours with this in advance.

We ordered the chicken fried steak with the country, potatoes and biscuits and gravy.

The chicken fried steak just was off, we always order with the gravy on the side so we can taste the quality of the chicken fried steak and breading before we smother it (Plus it gives you a crisper chicken fried steak to eat).

It was really a let down that this did not meet up to their advertising hype and we will not have that dish at Arthur's ever again.

The potatoes were actually horrible, they reminded me of very thinly sliced au gratin potatoes and didn't come out crispy as we ordered and weren't worth eating even if they had come that way.

The biscuits and gravy were excellent, probably the best biscuits I've had in years and the gravy is easily amongst my top favorites.

We left fully half of our shared plate untouched and nobody asked if we liked it or not.

The coffee was good, and again the service was spectacular!

We will probably come back and try a different dish, but I don't know what we will order without a good...

Omg so bad!! Corned beef out of a can...couldnt even fry both sides:( got a Newport sandwich...so dry.. Tasted like old fast food. And then on top of that the sandwich was put together so poorly that I couldn't even eat it without all the insides falling out. Extremely disappointing that the sign is the same as the Arthur's in Orange County... But definitely has nothing to do amazing breakfast that the real authors has to offer. The manager said that she was grateful and it works out that people are tricked into coming here! This is unacceptable and I feel so bad if people have ever mistaked this Arthur's for the real one! I live very nearby newly, but will not absolutely will not be coming here again! I sent back my sandwich after waiting there for about 15 minutes for someone to check I didn't even touch my plate after the first fight and was just sitting there and I guess the six or seven people that went by...

I was on my way to Barton Flats Campground and had been on the motorcycle for hours. I was hungry, sweaty, and exhausted. I came across this no frills place with a dated interior but plenty of character.

The staff brought me a tall glass of iced tea almost before I had a chance to sit down. I then noticed the back of their t-shirts: NO WHINING. My kinda place.

I ordered one of the specials, a chicken fried steak sandwich. Fried egg, lettuce, tomato, green onion, Swiss cheese, and a side of gravy for dipping. Gravy sounds excessive, but omg it's not. Sooo good. Somebody deserves a medal for coming up with this sandwich. The home fries were thinly sliced taters with all the fixings.
