The barbecue chicken tikka, seekh kabab and behari kabab that I ordered were all good in taste but it’s a pity that the staff’s attitude was very discouraging. I’ll be scared to go back.
Earlier this evening after work, I was at the desi grocery store next door to this restaurant when I thought I should order some bbq to go. I generally do this so that I can eat it without bread, avoiding carbs at night. There was a friendly young man by the name Durga at the counter to whom I started talking asking him how spicy the food is and if they can prepare bbq type meat customized to what I want (tabaq restaurant only a mile away, routinely does that for us) the young man respectfully told me that they can’t do that, to which I agreed and was just about to order a few items from their menu that this shabbily dressed elderly man jumped out of nowhere at me. Supposedly he was listening to the conversation and was not thrilled that some woman could demand something customized. He rudely told the young man to go get a kabab for me to try so that I can judge the spice and then turned to me and said that the kabab would be free of charge. I was really stunned by that behavior because I didn’t go there for free food and neither did I ask for it. I guess I wasn’t ready to be treated as a homeless hungry woman. The proper restaurant etiquette would have been to ask me if I wanted to try something rather than imposing it on me without knowing if I am willing for it. I refused the imposition and just gave my take out order to the young man. After this I went to the grocery store to get my stuff. When I returned, to get the ordered food there was a customer there who told me that I should try the Bihari kababs here. So i went to the counter and told the young guy to add that to my order and WHOAAA!!! The elderly man jumped at me again! This time telling me (without my asking) that the Bihari kabab would be severely spicy. Well, I didn’t ask, did I? I know that Bihari kababs are spicy. Earlier my question was about the bbq. This time he really made the staff bring out a sample for no good reason. I am sorry, but I don’t see this as courtesy. It’s more like: buy this or f*ck off!! He kept babbling in the background while I was finally paying. Among other things, accusing me of being educated!! I asked him how does he know that I am educated? He said that it’s because I am objecting to his behavior.
I hope that the owner Khalil Sahab takes care of this situation because he has a good reputation among...
Read moreMisleading Menu and Disappointing Experience
I recently visited Roti Boti in Meriden with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The main issue revolved around their misleading menu, which ultimately resulted in a disappointing dining experience.
Upon perusing the menu, I had my heart set on certain dishes that sounded delicious and enticing. However, when it came time to place my order, I was informed that several items were no longer available or prepared differently than described. This inconsistency between the menu and the actual offerings was frustrating and made me question the restaurant's attention to detail.
Moreover, the lack of communication about these discrepancies was concerning. It would have been helpful if the staff had informed me of the changes beforehand, allowing me to make an informed decision or explore other options. Instead, I was left feeling misled and disappointed.
To add to the disappointment, the substitutions made for the unavailable dishes were underwhelming. The flavors and presentation fell short of what was described on the menu, leaving me feeling unsatisfied and let down by the overall dining experience.
Additionally, the service at Roti Boti was lackluster. The staff appeared disinterested and inattentive, failing to provide the level of customer service one would expect from a restaurant. It's disheartening when a restaurant neglects such a crucial aspect of the dining experience.
In summary, my visit to Roti Boti in Meriden was marred by a misleading menu, disappointing substitutions, and lackluster service. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback constructively and makes the necessary improvements to ensure a more accurate menu representation and a better overall dining experience for...
Read moreHow do I put it? The level of disregard for customer service in this place always amazes me. First of all, my expectations are already low considering it's a Desi restaurant. And honestly, you never really go to a Desi restaurant for good customer service. You go there for the food. The food that generally takes hours to prepare at home and even longer to perfect. But the low bar that I had set for this place wasn't low enough. Every time I come to this restaurant, they never have anything available on their menu. If you are looking for basic chicken tikka masala and shish kebab, this is the place for you. If you're looking for an authentic goat biryani or bihari kebab, forget it. Apparently, they don't have beef or the goat available. Ever. If I had to guess, they probably have 30% of their dishes on their menu actually available. So why put it on the menu?!! The chicken biryani I finally managed to order tasted bland and seemed to have been just heated up in a microwave (cold spots in the rice and meat). The beef nihari was chewy. Naturally, the waiter was nowhere to be seen. Let's forget the food for a second. I sat in a booth with my wife near the wall. The wall had holes all over it with bricks missing. The seat I sat on was falling apart and I was skeptical the whole time whether it could take my weight. The decor made no sense. It's an Indian restaurant but there were Chinese lanterns all over the ceiling, with tasteless Bollywood music videos playing in a TV in the corner. This place has really gone downhill. In summary, avoid this place like the plague. There are much better options in the area....
