I overheard some people talking about Wienerschnitzel opening, and I thought, okay, I will go try it out, but I did not realize it was just their first week of being open. There was a massive wait at the drive-through line, but I learned from In-n-Out to just go stand in the wait line outside, which only took me about 30 minutes, and I had some very pleasant conversations with other people waiting. . Pros- Food was very tasty, well-packaged, and not overpriced. I ordered the Chili-cheese dog, Kraut dog, and the Polish sandwich. I made sure to get the Kraut dog with a regular weiner, the Chili-cheese dog with the all beef weiner, and, of course, the Polish sandwich had the Polish weiner. All tasted good, but nothing really stood out. My preferred way to order a hot dog is with sauerkraut and mustard,so I was very happy to see that this is their standard preparation on the menu. Chili-cheese dog was highly recommended by most of the people in line, and it was not messy and had full flavored chili. I can definitely understand why it is popular. All the staff were all very chill and not stressed for dealing with the high-turnout crowd. . Cons- There was no one outside of the restaurant welcoming the many people standing in line, as I have seen done at other restaurant openings in the area. I did not notice, but I wish they had some foot-long options, as all of their hot dogs seem kind of small. The dining room and take-out area are very small and not really accommodating for an opening crowd. There isn't any parking directly adjacent to the restaurants, but there is a large free parking lot, which is several yards behind the location. You will need to cross over the drive-through area to walk inside. Their app is only 2.8 stars and seems to not work very well, so I would not recommend downloading it. The manager was present and doing a good job, but he did not have a smile on his face, so that gave me a little anxiety at the experience. I wish the rest of the staff were dressed better and more presentable. It seems their uniform is just a dark, dirty t-shirt. . On my next return trip, I plan to purchase some of their other offerings (including the veggie dog), so I can report on the French fries and Ice cream shakes, but I doubt I will be getting a Burger there, as that is not something they specialize in, and many places, I am sure do it better. Also, there is no report on the restroom situation yet, but there is one available inside. I'm giving a 5-star review because I see a lot of potential here, especially since the staff was so accommodating and the prices were quite reasonable.
Diners beware. Worst Franchise ever!
I have been going to your other locations for years as I lived in California. The food at the California locations is fresh and made to order. It sets the standard for Wienerschnitzel's everywhere.
I was excited that you are now in Idaho and looked forward to eating what was once my favorite fast food. Unfortunately, this new location, in Meridian, ID leaves much to be desired. We went through the drive through and ordered mini corn dogs, chili cheese fries, a shake, and plain cone. We then parked in the parking lot to enjoy our food in the car. As we bit into the chili cheese fries and mini corndogs it was obvious that they had been sitting in the warmer for a very long time. The fries were old and tasted like rubber. The corn bread on the outside of the mini corn dogs was soggy and the hot dog inside was rubbery. I went into the lobby and asked if we could get freshly made food to replace the food that was old. Ayannah helped me and said she would get us some replacements. She came back out about 1 minute later and gave me some replacements. When I stated there was no way that the food was made fresh in 1 minute. She said that she got this food out of the warmer as it was premade because they were too busy. There were only 3 cars in the drive through at the time and only half of the tables in the restaurant had people. I asked for a refund as I did not want to eat old food. She gave me the refund but had a very bad attitude about it. Not the Weiner dude attitude that is a trademark of your restaurant. If this is not improved this location will go out of business like other Wienerschnitzel's in...
Read moreWienerschnitzel, Wienerschnitzel, this must be the place. You drive right up and they stuff a hotdogs right into your face!
So went the Wienerschnitzel TV jingle from the latec1960s. That was back when Wienerschnitzel's drive-thrus split the A-frame building.
Wienerschnitzel once operated a restaurant in Boise in the early 1980s but it closed long ago.
I was glad to see the Irvine, California, company open a new restaurant, this time in Meridian, this week. I arrived on opening day at about 11:30 a.m. There were only two people in the line ahead of me. A couple of hours later, as word spread, it took people more than an hour.
I had a chile dog and a Fanta orange float. The chili dog was as good as I remember it at age 10, the last time I ate at Wienerschnitzel.
The only negative was watching the manager run around like his head was cut off, and that was only an hour and a half after the restaurant opened. I can't imagine what he was like at the end of a long, grueling opening day. He didn't make eye contact and did not welcome anyone to his new restaurant.
Very surprising for a company opening its first Idaho location after the original Boise location closed nearly 40 years ago. Most restaurants and stores have people outside wellcoming guests, especially when there's a long...
