🌴 5 Stars for Vibes, Food & Fun – Minus the Bugs That Tried to Eat Me Alive 🌴
Let me start by saying: Gramps Getaway is an absolute Miami must (a massive upgrade from the Old Whiskey Joe's). A tropical Tiki bar dream with incredible views of the Miami skyline, palm fronds swaying in the breeze, and totally good vibes.
The location is a slice of paradise. Whether you're sipping under string lights or gazing out at the city with a cocktail in hand, it’s pure magic. And the Tiki décor? Think “Pirates of the Caribbean retires in Miami”.
The menu is fire with genuinely delicious dishes. The Esquites? Divine. The roasted prawns ? Incredible! . And don’t sleep on the cocktails...punchy, and somehow stronger than they look. (I think one of mine winked at me.)
Special shout-out to Deja, our server, who was an absolute legend. Quick, friendly, and somehow always appeared right as our glasses hit half-full. If Deja ran for mayor of Gramps, she’d have my vote.
Now let’s talk about the live DJs because WOW. These folks don’t just play music, they ignite the place. Funky beats, high energy, and just the right tempo to keep your head bobbing whether you’re at the bar or boogying in your seat.
🐜 BUT… THE BUGS.
Now. I didn’t want to be a Karen. I’m from Australia...we’re not exactly new to things that bite. But this? This was next level.
Somewhere between my third cocktail and fifth cocktail, the chiggers (yes, chiggers, not mosquitoes, Google it at your own risk) decided my legs were the special of the night. Over 60 bites later, I’m four days deep into calamine lotion, antihistamines, knock-out drugs and existential itching. My pharmacist looked horrified. My friends refuse to see the photos. I look like I lost a fight with a swarm of invisible piranhas.
It cost me $300 in CVS over 4 days and the sweet release of sleep. I’ve been through tropical Far North Queensland and never had anything this bad. Gramps, I love you, but for the love of all that is holy, please fumigate your patio.
In short... Gramps Getaway is a fantastic Tiki bar with killer food, drinks, music, and views. The ambiance is flawless, Deja’s service is top-tier, and the DJs should be knighted. Just... bring bug spray. Or a hazmat suit. Whichever fits in your beach bag.
I'd love to give you 5 stars, Gramps. But I’m scratching my way there. I soooo want...
Read moreGreat location and always a great vibe, whether it's on a weekday and you're looking for a chill outdoor waterfront escape or whether it is a weekend and you're looking for a groovy upbeat and social environment! Can get a little pricey pretty quickly, especially for the portions and elevated take on bar food, but the quality is always consistent and highly enjoyable. Staff is always super friendly, but could be a little more attentive to the seated tables in my honest opinion. The one flaw of the place that rubbed me the wrong way, is how pushy the security gets when its closing time. I could understand trying to get loiterers off the premises, but tables still eating and waiting to pay is incredibly upsetting.
Took my family for a celebratory dinner the other night for their first time and spent nearly $400 on a wide variety of food and drinks only for the security to approach us THREE times in the span of 30 mins while we were still eating to let us know that the location was closing in 15 minutes, 2 minutes, and officially closed while we were waiting for our server to come back with our cards which soured the whole experience for us in the end. Will definitely continue to support and recommend Gramps Getaway but hope more attention to detail in terms of service would be applied to really make it a true gem with...
Read moreSoooo I love the Physical atmosphere but the service had a Glitch the placement of customers was mismanaged and if the management pan the restaurant cameras they will quickly understand. So it was Friday evening I did not make a reservation so when the hostess said my party of four had to wait for an hour no problem in my head those are the breaks Miami on a Friday evening at a waterfront restaurant. However as we walked around the restaurant numerous empty tables sitting open so after waiting about 30 minutes I said to the hostess you know you have a bunch of tables on the backside that are empty and she was waiting on bc a large party of 40 20 minutes later tables still empty so asked again they had about 8 tables empty scattered on the outside patio of the restaurant. So I am chitchatting with her so I said you do realize we would have eaten and be about ready to leave and honestly can’t tell you we were alone there were other parties standing around.Soooo while it is lovely chill seaming nice people it just seam like a bunch of miss opportunities to sell food. Maybe that is not part of the business? The boatyard is really impressive the views of Key Biscayne is impressive Hopefully with time they will manage there resources better I am giving it three stars I might go back another time to see...
