TLDR: Simple yet well executed American Chinese food. Well worth dining in to take advantage of the great service and combination specials (soup, app, main course, dessert for $12 +/-)
Vibe: 4/5. Charming little standalone Chinese restaurant located in the parking lot of a strip mall. The interior is small yet cozy, sporting 8-10 tables/booths. Typical 80s-90s Chinese restaurant decor which had my nostalgia alarm going off the entire meal (think red oriental wall art and Chinese zodiac placemats).
Service: 5/5. Some of the best service I have had at a Chinese restaurant to date. Staff was very attentive and friendly throughout the entire experience. Orders were taken and our meal was brought out in perfectly timed courses. Our hot tea kettle was kept full and when it was time to settle up the bill, you simply go to the front and pay at the counter.
Food: 5/5. If you're craving great American style Chinese food, it doesn't get much better than this. Little China has all the staple dishes and are well done. One deal that cannot be missed is the dine in combination meals. They have a selection of 20+ main courses that come with a cup of soup (wonton or egg drop), an egg roll or sparerib app, hot tea and dessert (ice cream or rice pudding) for around $12 (price fluctuates based on main course). The main course is a full sized version, the same if ordered it a la carte (not a lunch special sized portion). On our last visit we ordered the char sue pan and beef julienned veggies combinations with wonton soups and 1 egg roll and 1 sparerib. We also ordered the crispy sizzling seafood platter and steamed dumplings. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious but the wonton soup and char sue pan took best in show. From watching other diner's food leave the kitchen, everything looked great. I would not hesitate ordering anything from...
Read moreMy heart is broke. Little China has been a staple for the Essex /Middle River area .. now I would say it is the disappointment of the area. The fried rice was so overcooked it was mushy and dry with no flavor, minimal veggies (if... you can give that much credit to what we found in it). Fried Cream Cheese Wontons were extremely salty and somehow that was the best part of dinner... Shrimp/ Pork egg rolls - well let's just say the shrimp must have jumped back in the sea when the chef wasn't looking.. but somehow the egg rolls tasted like fish.. Shrimp Lo Mein was so fishy, made my dog look at it twice before eating it... General tso chicken reminded me of this rubber duck toy I once saw near a dumpster... & It tasted like I would imagine that would have tasted... Ohh and almost forgot.. how do you mess up a fortune cookie that is store baught.....stale!!!!!! I don't know what happened to the cooks from back in the day, but they need to call them back. I will never eat...
Read moreEvery chinese restaurant has a seafood combination as a platter. Right? Not this one, apparently..... When I called to order, she sounded very confused. She asked me if I wanted seafood and vegetables. Since the dish was not for me, and as I've ordered it many times, this was not it, i assumed it was standard. When i received it, It looked as if the seafood and vegetables were straight out of a steemer bag from your local market frozen food section. It tasted like it too.
I also ordered crab ragoons, FROZEN to cooked is what they were, and they were awful. Also, when you usually order an eggroll without specifying as I did, you would receive a vegetable eggroll. We were given a pork. Would not return. The food was not fresh food. It was frozen food from your grocery store. I ordered over the phone, and when asked how much the total was, she said $34 and asked if that amount was ok. I...
