Sol House Tavern — Restaurant in Middletown

June 21, 2023 I chose to update my review. I went back 4 months later and the food was very well cooked and seasoned. The Cole slaw was tasty, pickled veggies were amazing, the burnt ends were crispy and tender. The pretzel was top notch. Tried the Mac and cheese topped with bacon and it was awesome. Review updates from 2 stars to 4 stars!!! Owner very receptive and open to my previous complaint. Tonight was trivia night and it was packed with a fun crowd. I’ll be back.

February 2023 review: After all off of my friends telling me how amazing the food is, I met up with a friend to try it out. The place was empty, ambience was nice. We shared the pretzel with the cheese dip. That was a good pretzel and the cheese dip has a nice consistency and flavor. We asked if there was meat in the collard greens as my friend does not eat meat. We were told no. She ordered the salmon. She stated it was dry and the honey ginger sauce tasted like maple syrup. I tasted it and it did not have a flavor profile of anything remotely close to honey or ginger and had the liquidity of maple syrup. Mashed potatoes were stiff and bland. The collard greens had meat in them!!!!! I ordered the pork belly burnt ends which comes with Cole slaw. I tasted the burnt ends and they were ok. Covered in bbq but not bad. The Cole slaw was sour and putrid and tasted spoiled. I also ordered collard greens and French onion soup. The collard greens I had was mostly stalks but the flavor profile was good from the few leaves on the bowl. The French onion soup tasted sour and like vinegar. Few monuments later the cook came out to the table to apologize for the quality of the food admitting that it was tasted in the back and the Cole slaw and French onion soup was spoiled. I was a bit annoyed the food was not tasted prior to going out. I ordered a pretzel to go the next day and it was not the same and the cheese sauce was oily and so was the pretzel. So for me within 24 hrs it’s no consistency, can’t say I’ll be back any time soon. The server was nice. They only offer tap water and do not sell bottled water. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while since I live right next door. I just had a classic pepperoni pizza, it wasn’t bad at all, but it wasn’t great. I wish I ordered something better since everyone else’s food looked delicious, but I was really craving pizza for some reason. I asked the bartender for a side of buffalo sauce to dip my crust. What she gave me was not buffalo sauce, but whatever it was, it was phenomenal. I asked what it was and all she could tell me was that it was something the cook makes himself. It was sweet, spicy, and smokey, not exactly a barbecue taste but it was delicious! After my pizza I decided to order their Pecan Cheesecake, it came with a scoop of pink ice cream on top (probably raspberry or something I don’t know).The cheesecake was excellent but the ice cream kind of took away from the cake, and I felt like the flavor didn’t match. My wife and I went to this restaurant on Saturday, April 24, 2021 and had a great experience. There are many original and unique food choices and combinations, what we had was very tasty and I assume everything else is too. Lots of apps to mix and match. The fried pickles and onion rings are just done right. This is a place that pays attention to customer requests - I don't really like tomatoes (and stated this to the waitress), but I don't mind a THIN slice on top a burger for just a tiny bit of flavor. What came on my burger? One THIN slice exactly, like shaved ham at the deli. Perfect! All of the staff was very friendly and attentive, great to chat with.
