It was my visit to Udupi Bhavan, and it was awesome. We tried a couple of dishes, mainly South Indian, like Plain masala dosa, Mysore Masala Dosa, Uttapam, Curd Rice, Besi Belli Bhat, tamarind Rice. We also Methi Matar Malai, Potato Bonda, Dahi Vada, and Vegetable Cutlet. I visited this place on a recommendation from neighbors and friends. It took me a while to drive to Middle town, which is worth it. Compared to other Indian restaurants in CT presentation of food is not good, and it has self-service. Self Service means; first, you need to order at the counter and pick your drink. Also, once the order is ready, then you need to pick it up from the counter. Also, after having food, you need to pick all your disposable dishes and throw them in the garbage bin. Generally booking is not required for this place by if you are planning to visit during the weekend or on any holiday then take your proper time as I was on time but saw a couple of folks had to wait for dining. The person who was managing the counter was very humble and of welcoming attitude. Even he suggested that what we should try, which we don't much nowadays in restaurant industries. Overall pleasant experience and cost-effective and recommended if you wanted to try some good south...
Read moreI was here with my father the other day for lunch. I felt like the price for my curry was good, but my father got the dosa which was pretty expensive for what you get (a pancake with no fillings as the and one watery side and a chutney). The mango lassis had been made in advance and were in a cooler and seemed to be a few days old based on the softness of the cups and the watery consistency. The man taking our order was too busy arguing with me that the two appetizers were similar and I didn't want them that he forgot to write down the order of bread we asked for. When I questioned him about it near the end of the meal because it hadn't come out, he said it was still baking. We waited about 5 minutes after we were done eating for it to be finished and then he insisted we pay for it because it hadn't been on the order sheet. Doing the math afterwards we paid for it twice (3.50). He obviously knew we'd ordered it based on his response when I asked about the order so should have taken responsibility for his error on a food item that cheap. The food was mediocre - I usually love curried chickpeas and samosas but I only wanted a few bites. I sent the rest home for my mother in case she...
Read moreDecent food experience spoilt by terrible & rude customer service! Mr. Prabhakar and Udupi catered breakfast to a large (~80 people) event at the Middletown temple. After the event, some of Udupi's equipment (coffee container, tea containers, ladles) were accidentally loaded on one of many cars supporting the event clean up & it took us a few hours later to determine where each item was. So it took a bit longer than anticipated to return these back. In the interim, Mr. Prabhakar called and started accosting me in what can only be described as rude and tribal language. Winding down from an event well done, it was terrible to hear this ranting from a business owner & needless to say, it put a damper on an otherwise wonderful day of family celebrations. I'm quite dismayed that Mr. Prabhakar did not appreciate the importance of this day for me and my family and instead chose to use rude language in our interactions. In a day and age where customer service for a business is de rigeur, such behavior is simply unacceptable. I will most certainly be sharing this experience with all my friends & will NOT be recommending this...
