Grottos pizza is a family restaurant/ sports bar. Grottos is a tasty tradition and the pizza has become legendary in the Delaware area. The very first pizza slices were sold out of a lunch wagon in Rehoboth beach by the founder and owner Dominick Pulieri!!! I was too young to remember this but my mom and other members of my family have told me this is how Grottos quickly became a DE beach tradition. Now a days there are a lot of restaurant locations in DE, MD and PA. Grottos is always adding locations in new states so check out Grottos website for all the info you need. The pizza is great!! With that being said I do have friends and family that do not like the pizza. I have been eating grottos pizza my entire life. my experience is, either you absolutely love the pizza or you hate it. There really seems to be no In between. The pizza sauce is on the sweeter side. Which for me and a lot of other people is perfect!! Some don't like the sweeter tasting sauce. The people I know that don't like the pizza always blame the slightly sweeter taste of the sauce. I worked at Grottos Pizza about 20 years ago for a summer and I learned Grottos makes their own pizza sauce from scratch!!! The sauce is not commercially processed. This is not a sauce that comes from a Tin can or plastic bag. The quality and taste of the different cheeses that Grotto uses is top notch!! You can buy frozen pizzas to take home, these pizzas can be stored in your freezer to be cooked whenever you want. This is a great and convenient feature that Grottos offers. Especially, if you are not from the Delaware area and you are visiting DE on vacation. Just ask your waitress or any staff about the take home frozen pizza (or ask about half bakes) This is one of many things I love about Grottos you can enjoy the great and unique taste of Grottos from the comfort of your home no matter the state your home is in. Grottos also has appetizers cheesesteaks, wings, burgers. It's not just pizza they offer a variety of Italian foods and more. Grottos is a sports bar with a bar area. Complete with bartenders. They also have booths and tables. The servers are always professional and friendly. Grottos has lots of tv's mounted on the walls to watch live sports. You can see a tv screen no matter where you are in the restaurant. Great place to hang out and watch NBA on Friday nights or watch college football ball on Saturdays and of course the NFL on Sundays, being the best day of every week. Atleast for me, it don't get much better then football and family time on a Sunday. Also try the Gelato ice cream for dessert it is...
Read moreFirst off, let me say that I am a huge fan of Grotto Pizza. That being said I am extremely disappointed in the staff at the Milford location. Allow me to explain. During the pandemic I have taken full advantage of Delivery apps like Grubhub, so, imagine my excitement when I realized that Grottos was available on the app. The reason being is because I live outside of their normal delivery area. Unfortunately when I tried to order my pizza, I noticed a glitch in the app whereby it would only allow you to choose the size of your pie but not choose any toppings. I still wanted my pizza, so, I came up with a plan. I would call the store after I placed my order and ask them to add pepperoni. I placed my order, and called the store. After being put on hold 3 times the rudest most arrogant and unhelpful man answers the phone and proceeded to tell me that they couldn't do anything about it. I then tried to explain to him about the glitch on the app to which his reply was he doesn't care and they have no control over Grubhub. Becoming frustrated, I asked him to cancel my order to which he replied, there is nothing he can do and if I am unsatisfied I should not order food anymore. First of all, couldn't you at least try to be polite to a customer that has a problem. Secondly I know for a fact that the restaurant can cancel an order. If you are going to allow your business to be represented on an app, you should at least try to make sure it is correct. Those delivery apps are what kept you afloat when no one was allowed to dine in your store or even leave the house. I will be going to the Lewes location from now on. Come on Grottos, you are a local institution. At least try...
Read moreThis Grotto's Pizza location is a tradition in our family. We almost always stop here in our way home from my Mom's beach house. Even on Mother's Day, this was where my Mom wanted to eat! The staff is always friendly; they are attentive and nice, but don't hover, which is sometimes hard to find. Then there's the free popcorn. You are welcome at any time to go over to the popcorn machine (located just inside the bar area, close to the front windows) and help yourself to baskets of free popcorn. I may be biased because it is one of my favourite snacks, but unlike a bread basket it won't fill you up before you get your food. So when you go in hungry, you can assuage that hungry feeling without really ruining your appetite. The pizzas are good, and everything I've ever gotten there has been really good. I recommend the stromboli. (Of course, in addition to the pizza.) This is a favorite tradition, especially when my husband and I are driving home separately from my parents. Despite leaving our vacations and weekends completely behind at the beach house, we get that last meal together before going home. So this particular location is our favourite, of course, but it's also a great casual place to eat. Wear shorts or get casual dressy or wear your favorite team jersey to the bar to watch the game. Each booth has its own television, or keep it off and focus on your family and...
