We went on a whim with our 2 and 4 year old daughters. Didn’t expect a kid-friendly environment because we knew we were expecting something geared to adults, and we got what I would call a kid-neutral environment. There’s a kid menu and kid cups with lids/straws but no crayons/coloring/the other stuff most restaurants provide. No big deal- again, didn’t expect it.
Inside is nicely redone but lighting is definitely on the cool side - with the abundance of gray and white decor and rather low ceilings, some slightly warmer ceiling lights would make a more inviting and relaxing ambiance. Sounds strangely picky, but it stood out from the start to me. Also, didn’t understand the title of Boardroom mixed with prohibition / rat pack decor.
We then waited… and waited… for anyone to acknowledge us after being seated. Both of our girls were asking for drinks and we took both of them (separate trips) to the restroom and back before a server approached our table. It was busy but not to the point where new guests had to wait for seating, and it seemed like enough staff were there to have noticed we weren’t being acknowledged. We did have menus to look at during our wait, though.
When we did get our drinks and placed our orders, it seemed like we were left to wait and wait again. I had finished my wine and waited at least 15 minutes before our server acknowledged my glass was empty (just as I was about to order my own at the bar), although he and other servers plus someone running food from the kitchen were all milling past our table regularly. At this point I chalked it up to inexperience overall and was still looking forward to trying the food.
It took almost an hour after being seated to get our food- which is not fun with small children but we made do because it’s not meant to be a “kid” atmosphere. However, once our food came, they brought my food and my husband’s, and we waited at LEAST another 5 minutes for our kids’ food. How do you make a 2 and 4 year old wait but serve their parents if the kids’ food isn’t right behind it?
Kids’ food was good (chicken tenders and fries). My husband ordered his burger medium. It came out charred black and so well done it was bone dry. Unfortunate, but it happens. He told our server and we got another one on the fly. (Literally came within minutes and was much better!!) I also told the server at that time that my swordfish entree was super fishy - I’m not picky or even one to normally complain but it did not seem “normal” and I was let down. Server told me that is the way it is prepared. I eventually tried a piece of the fish without the charred tomato / anchovy topping and realized the fish was great- it was the topping that wasn’t balanced and threw off the taste otherwise. Again, not something I’d normally care to post online about, but I was treated like I didn’t understand how swordfish should taste rather than with respect as a customer with a decent palate. The side veggies were delish, though!!!
Last point- We were disappointed that the man running food out of the kitchen was asking tables about their meal when their feedback was positive, but no one asked us about our experience knowing it was less than. Additionally, our kids weren’t disruptive or disrespectful, so it’s not like we brought wild children in and let them bother anyone. We were quite frankly expecting better in any single avenue. My husband made sure to even leave a decently respectful tip (36%) because he felt as though we were treated like people looking for a handout.
In retrospect, I would have asked for patio seating for a more relaxed environment with kids. Seems beautiful and very...
Read moreI feel like I just went to Heaven's restaurant!!! The food is absolutely impeccable!!! Our pallette is still dancing from the flavors. My husband had a beer on tap while I had the Mary Pickford, it was spot on for the mix combination. We had the Grouper Bites for our Get Things Started (Appetizer), they were perfectly seasoned crunch on the outside, not tough or overdone inside & the lemon pepper aioli was a great addition to the mild fish. I had the Blackened Haddock dinner special with whiskey cream sauce, mushroom risotto & honey drizzle brussel sprouts. Just the right amount of seasoning for the mild fish, the mushroom risotto was a perfect compliment & the brussel sprouts were a delicious seasonal vegetable. My husband had the 32 oz t-bone ... I can't believe I didn't get a picture!! 🤦♀️ The presentation was right out of NYC!! It arrived pre-sliced, sauteed pepper & onion covered, & herb butter topped! It included the brussel sprouts & garlic mashed potatoes but the true star of the night was the melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly prepared, take me to Heaven T-bone. I've never tasted a bone-in steak so amazing. We ended the evening with dessert specials of Raspberry Lemoncello Cake & Peach Cobbler Cheesecake - both are a must! Although, the Peach Cobbler Cheesecake did take my breath away for the decadent flavors. Atmosphere was inviting & the restaurant was a full house. It didn't feel crowded. The sound dampening tiles are a great addition to keep the noise tolerable, especially considering how busy it was. Food came out quickly too. Our server was Devyn & she is a delight! It was our first time dining at The Boardroom & she helped us feel comfortable. One of the owners, Josh, was kind enough to stop by our table, ensure our meals were as expected & thanked us for dining there tonight. Now that's something you don't get anymore! Bravo to the owners, Michael & Josh ... We'll definitely be coming there again & telling...
Read moreI took my mom and girlfriend out for a delicious dinner at the Boardroom in Erie Pa. Upon entering, I recalled this used to be Twins Tavern, and the walls were gone leaving a bright open and smartly remodeled space. We were seated on a Saturday night. While it took a while to get our drinks, the wine selection and cocktail offerings were extensive. The soup was lobster bisque, which I ordered. I had decided on chicken piccata, which was done perfectly and not dried. I got to try Kaye’s steak, although ordered well done was still flavorful and tender, and the mashed potatoes rocked. My mom went with a seafood pasta dish with al dente fettuccini and other tomato’s and peppers, culinary perfection. The owner, Mike Chesario, opened a nice gem of an upscale restaurant on Erie’s West side. My only suggestion would be a gas fireplace in the corner to counter the cold wind from the opening door in winter. They do have a fireplace table on a nice covered patio to enjoy a cocktail when summer comes to...
