El Mex- Kal — Restaurant in Milliken

Every time we've visited El Mex-Kal we've had a positive experience with good food, except for this last Monday the 14th. Waited over 25 minutes for a table when the restaurant was not full. Once we sat down, it took another 10 minutes for our chips and salsa to arrive and for us to order drinks. Sat at the table while the two young servers helplessly attempted their jobs. Remained at the table for another 20 minutes without drinks and decided we didn't want to spend our night in frustration so we got up and left. While leaving, I heard another couple complaining about the service. The young man wasn't rude with the little interaction we had with him, but especially on a busier night, like Valentine's night, maybe staffing more-experienced servers would be a wise decision vs. losing out on business and having people leave before getting a chance to order food. After hiking for the day, we wanted Mexican for dinner and we found this gem.

The chips and salsa were pretty good. I personally lived the mild, but my family liked the hotter salsa. The guac was delicious and one of the highlights of the meal. Very fresh and tasty. Good portion too.

The staff was so friendly, very attentive and the restaurant was clean.

The food was delicious. We ordered 4 different meals. I had the shredded chicken chimichanga with the chili sauce on the side, our youngest had the shrimp fajitas (she doesn't usually like Mexican, but is now asking me to make this at home). The shrimp was very fresh, great size too. Our oldest daughter had the taco salad and she ate everything but the shell (she doesn't usually eat the shell, so that wasn't because it wasn't good). My husband ordered the enchiladas and a taco and said they were okay.

Had to sit ourselves after standing at the front podium and having the employees walk by us many times. Had to get up once seated to get our own menus. Waited 11 minutes to be greeted for drink orders. When it was finally convenient for the staff, we were able to order our dinner. During the 32 minutes we waited before the first meal came to the table, we had to flag down the wait staff to get drink refills as not once were we ever asked if we were good. We ordered five meals, two came out, then minutes later two more came out and then finally the last one showed up, which was completely wrong from what was ordered. We sent it back and asked for them not to remake as we were not waiting another half hour.
