A pretty underwhelming experience to say the least. We were excited to see a new restaurant right by our house in Millville and watched and waited for some time for it to open. We finally went for dinner on 7/27/25. When we got there we put our name in for a table with the younger hostess and there was one other party ahead of us waiting for a table. We were told it would about 15-20 minutes, which we were totally cool with. While waiting several other parties began to show up, one of which was two separate groups that showed up 10-15 minutes apart and wanted to sit with one another. The younger hostess came out to let us know our table was ready and as we began to walk in, an older woman who I presume is a manager, told the younger hostess not to seat us, that they would be seating the larger group that came 15- 20 minutes after we did. This left my wife and I, and even the younger hostess a bit confused and in shock. They then took two separate four top tables and combined them to seat the larger group. When we bought it up to the older woman that we were waiting well before any of the other parties, she unapologetically responded "well we are a smaller place and they have a bigger party". I really don't care what the excuse is, that was the incorrect thing to do and response to have. The older woman clearly had a chip on her shoulder since we questioned why they chose to not seat us, which would continue though the night. We waited another 15-20 minutes or a table. The rest of the younger staff seemed friendly. We ordered and had our food reasonably fast. The food wasn't anything spectacular. It was "mid" as my daughter would say. All three of us had the lime shrimp with our dishes and it was pretty overcooked. As we were finishing dinner the older woman came over and took our plates as if she wanted us to rush. My wife wasn't completely finished with her meal but didn't want any further confrontation with the woman and just let her take it. Our waitress brought our bill, I paid, left a 22% tip for the waitress and let the signed billed sit at the table as my wife and I finished our drinks. While doing so the older woman then came reaching in and took my signed bill from in between my arms, leaving us with the feeling that we were completely not welcome to stay. Never in my life have I had someone take the signed credit card bill before leaving, but like I said, chip on her shoulder.
I'll say this, first impressions matter and our first impression with Flip Flops was not a good one. Probably not a good idea to treat locals that way, especially ones would frequent your restaurant on a regular basis if it hadn't been for such a horrible experience. Needless to say I don't anticipate we will ever go back and I will be sharing this experience with our friends and neighbors.
P.S the older woman whom we had this exchange with is pictured on their website behind the...
Read moreWe love Summer Salts so were excited to try Flip Flops. It's good, but definitely room for improvement (but isn't there almost everywhere????), which I think will come as they hit their stride. Even though there were some things we didn't care for, it was all good enough that we will be going back, maybe just try different items, which we like to do at places anyway.
This is what we found:
No french fries on the menu - to us that is not a problem, they had us at "tater tots!" I simply mention this because most places have fries).
Loaded Tater Tots - Nice and crispy, good amount of bacon and cheese but not TOO much. We agreed the only thing that would have made these better would have been a few jalapenos on top.
French Onion Soup - My daughter said it was very good and she would order it again.
Caesar Salad - Great size! Croutons looked homemade but were a little dark and seemed a little burnt. Otherwise the salad was fresh and enjoyed by my daughter.
Lime Shrimp Tacos w/coleslaw side. Hubby enjoyed his tacos. Nice amount of shrimp on them. Slaw was ok but that is something that everyone makes differently so I really think that was just a preference thing. Would definitely order the shrimp again but with a different side (like maybe more tater tots!).
Fried Avocado Tacos w/caprese salad side - The tacos had good flavor and have a lot of potential, however didn't seem like much avocado, and I had numerous bites per taco without any avocado in it... when I could taste the avocado, it was quite a tasty combination. I thought the amount of avocado was lacking, especially since they were the same price as the shrimp tacos. Caprese salad, the tomato and balsamic complimented each other well, however these should be made with fresh mozza, and the cheese in mine was way dry, definitely not fresh mozza.
I feel like the positives outweigh the negative and we will be back for sure. I really think that what "could have been better" really is just from being newly open and still...
Read moreIt was a flop. I wanted to like it because we love Summersalts but there’s just too much of a different vibe going on. The appetizers were good but the chicken was rubbery, not grilled. The place was really cold- AC was obviously set to employees comfort- not the diners ….way too cold it was only about 65 degrees out that evening….luckily I had a hoodie. A woman at the next table had her husband go out to their car to get her a coat. The ambiance is pretty bad- way too bright for an evening dinner - overhead fluorescent lighting made our night out feel more like a morning coffee run. I think lighting should be toned down for a relaxing dinner. Drinks were good but its kinda hard to relax and unwind when you are shivering from cold and have overhead lights shining on you. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough so I left my full drink because I was do uncomfortable from cold and bright lights with the dark sky outside. Server was attentive. I’ll stick to Summersalts until they make some changes because we know it’s...
