There's a reason The Salty Rim only has a three star review rating. That's because Google won't let us start our rating at "stardust!" Otherwise this place would have a much lower rating.
We decided to explore the Bethany area for a place to eat when we came upon this place. My eight year old was interested in eating in the train car which had a fifteen minute wait. while waiting my wife decided she wanted to look at a menu. When she went to ask for a menu, the hostess was on her cell phone and never bothered to look up and just shoved a menu in my wife's direction. The attitude was noted.
Once seated, we ordered our drinks, two waters w/lemon and a milk. The waiter brought our drinks, but there was no lemon. We mentioned it to him and he said he would get it. About eight minutes later he came back and asked if we were ready to order, but had no lemons. We told him we still needed our lemons and then ordered (I think they were picking fresh lemons or something). Eventually he brought lemons. Success finally!
My wife ordered stuffed shrimp, my son a hotdog, and me some chicken wings. My wife was giving me her salad from her entree. We waited, and waited, and waited until I think my son turned nine before we asked if the salad was coming. He stated that it was coming and the kitchen was backed up. I guess Fifteen minutes for a salad isn't bad, but it made us wonder how long until the rest of it comes out?
As I could hear the theme music from Jeopardy playing in my head, and dealing with a hungry eight year old who has now developed ADHD due to us waiting so long for our food to come, the waiter shows up with three covered plates. The glands in our mouths started to water with excitement. He first revealed the hotdog and put it on the table and then he revealed the stuffed grouper. Stuffed Grouper, stuffed grouper??? We didn't order any stuffed grouper! After waiting longer than I may have ever waited for a meal, the order was wrong. I actually grew a beard while waiting for this order and it was wrong. The waiter said he would have the sloth cooks fix her stuffed shrimp.
Then my son, who was a teenager by this point, tried his hotdog and it was on the verge of refreezing it was so cold. That was it! The final straw. An hour in this poor excuse for a restaurant and we still couldn't tell you how the food taste.
Like a dog that has been kicked too many times, we will purposely avoid this place at all cost. My only question is what establishment will eventually take over this space when The Salty Rim fails and has to close it's doors.
Remember, it's not my review that counts, but it the combination of all reviews and there cumulative score. With all the places in a beach town, you can surely find something better...
Read moreNever got a chance to experience very much at all we had very rude hostesses at the front this was on Friday June 16th in the evening around 7 to 7:30 pm, We asked for a large table we were a party of 5 not very small people. The young girl takes us back to a cubby hole on the left where there's a bunch of kids running around and it seated 4 insteadof 5. We asked for a large table where the excitement was in the middle of the dining room where we could at least hear the music if we couldn't see it. There was a large table 2 sections behind the hostess booth and we asked if we could sit there The hostess with the long kinky wavy hair was very rude and she said no you'll have to wait you didn't like the table we gave you .I said it seated 4 we are 5 people ,5 paying grown adults why can't we have the table that's open ? She refused to give it to us she said we would have to wait 5 minutes and we waited 10 minutes and she still would not give us the table I asked to speak to the manager she would not let us speak to the manager. I asked someone to go get the manager no one got the manager. This must be someone's daughter that works as she was very very rude to us. We had 2 friends in there at the same time that we're paying customers that were good regulars. We were going to eventually sit with them or they were gonna come and sit with us. We had company from out of town, we live in this area, very close to this restaurant, and we thought this would be a fun place To take them. We were wrong the hostesses were extremely rude. Especially the one with the long wavy kinky hair. She was stone faced no smiles. no 1 smiled when we walked in ,no 1 said welcome how can we help you ,is there a particular kind of seating you would like, the place wasn't jam packed there were seats pretty much half of the place was open and available to sit at. We were treated so bad I will never walk back into your establishment I will never ever Tell anyone to go there. I will tell people to stay away. Can't speak to a manager, no one seems to care. So we decided to get-up-and-go to Bethany blues where 4 happy, smiling hostesses were standing there ready big smiles on your face happy to see us and said where would you like to sit because we were a large party of 5 people and they sat us in the middle of everything and they put us right there at a nice big table and we enjoyed ourselves. Bethany blues had a better atmosphere better hostesses And much better attitudes and the food was excellent, always is,. how hard could that have been for the salted rim? You can't get past the very rude angry stone faced Hostesses that are young and let me say this they are Disconnected because it's not their business so they don't care. I will never go back to This...
Read moreI don't believe this was the worst experience I've had dining out. Perhaps the most bizarre or disappointing. It was clear from the start that there was a problem with communication between the wait staff, the kitchen and the front of house.
We arrived at 4:45 and we're were seated promptly in one of the train cars per our request. My son was beside himself with joy. We received plenty of attention right away setting my expectations that we were in for a great experience, but we were soon neglected. Our drinks took nearly 15 minutes to arrive at the table and our server seemed more interested in attending to other business than taking our food order. With two little kids in tow we emphasized our need to quickly get them fed. I had to inquire twice as to the status of our food and was told it would be no more than 5 minutes. That story stretched on more than 20. Finally, more than 50 minutes after we sat down our food arrived (I had already asked for to-go boxes and the check).
Our server was surprised that my son's burger had cheese as we ordered it, "I put it in with no cheese" he stated. My fajitas were lacking any distinct sizzle that is expected from a dish hot off the grill, making me guess just how long they had been sitting out under a warming lamp. My wife's stuffed shrimp were missing the asparagus. Again, our server seemed to lack any desire to take charge. As he stated "I noticed that it was missing the asparagus when I picked it up", but made no indication he was going to check with the kitchen on the missing food until we requested he do so directly. When he returned he told us the floor manager said they were out, yet not 10 seconds later a dish of asparagus lands in front of my wife. Either he was misinformed or the dish was reappointed from someone else's order.
At this point I wish I could rate the qulqual of the food we did receive. It is warming in the oven as I had no chance to eat after 75 minutes. My children had melted down and needed to be rushed home for bed.
It is not my intention to write this review in order to embarrass anyone or prevent the next customer from going. I hope that the ownership can take a good hard look at their people and processes - especially training and communication - and improve their service. There is only one way to go,...
