There are so many amazing pizza places of varying styles here in beautiful Milwaukee, yet I always circle back to Classic Slice as my top favorite. The texture of the crust is perfect: thin, but not cracker thin, dense, chewy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Outstanding signature pizza flavors imagined with just the right amount of creativity and innovation. Everything slaps. My favorites are Shippee Ahoy and La Dolce. They also have a long list of quality-sourced topping options to add on or design your own slice or pie with. While the single slices are huge and will fill you up, it's worth it to splurge and get a whole 20-inch pie. Not the 12 or 16-inch. It has to be the 20-inch, which provides the ideal ratio of crust to toppings-covered area of the pizza. More pizza, less crust. One of the many great things about Classic Slice is that it's just as good the next day or the day after, it doesn't degrade in quality immediately like so many other disappointing pizzas. Also, so much love to the staff here, many of whom are or have become friends over the years. Not only are they nice and funny, but, for all the highly specific pizzas with ridiculous topping combinations I've ordered over the last 14 or so years I've been coming here, they have never, not once, made a mistake on my pizza. I've never had a "bad" pizza or experienced any inconsistency in quality. The worst that's ever happened was a forgotten side of ranch with a delivery order. I really really wanted the ranch, because, as I'm sure you know if you've tasted it, Classic Slice's ranch is the ranch to end all other ranches. So I called the delivery driver back and he went and brought me back a ranch in no time at all, even though it was during peak busy hours. He was even nice about the fact that he had to walk around the side of the house to the fence to get my attention in the yard because I was gardening and hadn't heard my phone go off. If you find yourself disappointed by the business not being open when you expected it to be one time, if a mistake was made, or if you had to wait longer than you wanted to or something along those lines, you might find that if you lead with kindness and understanding, a little more kindness and understanding will be reflected back to...
Read moreClassic Slice reminds me of one of those little hole in the wall pizza places you find in a big city where at first you aren't sure if you want to even walk in the building, but when you do you wonder why on Earth you wouldn't have gone in in the first place. It's fairly small but has enough tables that you can push together if you have a larger group. They have a simple menu and focus on doing a couple things really really well.
We're calzone fans and have struggled to find a good one in Milwaukee since one of our favorite restaurants took them off their menu. We wandered into Classic Slice early on a Saturday afternoon and ordered up a couple of calzones. Everything is made after you order so it's fresh, warm, and totally worth the wait. These suckers are HUGE. One is easily enough to feed two people if you're average hungry. We were all extremely hungry so we each ordered our own and I'm glad we did. They were beyond delicious, stuffed full of toppings and cheese, and easy to eat by hand or with a knife and fork. They have a couple combos if you don't want to think up your own, or you can pick whatever toppings/fillings you want for an extremely reasonable price!
Classic Slice is our new go to spot for calzones. It's a good thing we live half an hour away or we'd be there every week and our wallets and waistlines wouldn't be...
Read moreI've lived in Bay View since moving to Milwaukee in 2011. Classic Slice has always been and will always be one of my favorite places to take anyone. Friends from out of town. Friends from the 'burbs'. And especially my kids. But today, they proved to be even more amazing than I'd even known. Also, credit goes to a complete stranger, whom I wish had left a name. Yesterday, I sent my boyfriend to check it out. He's a fan of Pizza Shuttle. Which is also good, just a different kind of pizza. Anywho, at some point, he dropped his wallet. This morning, when he realised that it was gone, he figured we were just SOL. He called around to all the places he thought he may have lost it, to no avail. Then he thought, "maybe I didn't have it right before I got home" and called Classic Slice. Sure enough, someone had turned it in. And they turned it on with over $100 still in it! I wish I knew who this kind soul was so that I could properly thank them. Life for my family is beyond hard these days, and we are struggling just to keep going every day. Thank you to the employees of Pizza Shuttle. It meant the world to us to have it returned in tact. Y'all have some lifetime customers who will be spreading the word as loud and as far as we can. Karma is good people. Keep it...
