I have been visiting the Taqueria El Toro truck on 51st and Oklahoma for a long time now. I kept meaning to try the actual restaurant. I heard they have the stuffed baked potato and have been dying to have it in my belly. My wife and I finally got the chance to visit tonight! The excitement and anticipation were tormenting my taste buds! First of all I am a born and raised Milwaukeean and I have to tell you Mitchell street is not the same as the 90s. That didn't stop me because I am all for supporting local and had to go! The outside of the restaurant is well lit and very easy to find. The dining room is very big and could accommodate a large group. There is a full bar. We went late on Sunday so there were not too many people there. The waitress was super friendly and kind. She only spoke Spanish but that's okay because, welll I am Mexican and I speak Spanish. She allowed us to pick any table. There was music playing at the bar and filled the dining area also. The music was not super loud so that I couldn't hear my wife but just perfect to create a good atmosphere. The menu is in full Spanish so if you don't know Spanish make sure you have Google Translate! If you know what you typically like at a Mexican restaurant you won't have any issue. We ordered two stuffed baked potatoes with Arrachera ( skirt steak) and cheese. Two pastor tacos and 2 barbacoa tacos. The barbacoa tacos are made of slow cooker goat meat. Don't knock them until you try. My dad used to make goat so I wasn't scared. They were juicy, tender and full of flavor! I absolutely recommend! The pastor tacos are made on a gyro style trumpet and shaved off. Served marinaded and with pineapple! Yum yum yum yum yum! They serve with lemons since all the limes lately have been dry! Now to the baked potato, it was baked very well and to perfect softness. It was opened and stuffed with chopped Arrachera meat and cheese. It was really good but I did feel it was missing something. Haven't figured it out yet. Using a tortilla I put the potatoe, steak and cheese pieces on it. A little guacamole and salsa and it was delish! Anyway you guys just need to visit. Don't stick just to the touristy, trendy and we'll known places and try local small...
Read moreI always liked coming here until my last visit which I definitely think will be my last. I was served by the short dark skinned lady and seemed very irritated and out of place as if she didn’t want to be there also seemed bothered by my broken Spanish and my friend who didn’t speak Spanish at all. We acknowledge that our Spanish isn’t the best but we still like to practice and try. Anyways I had told this lady I wanted all toppings on my 4 tacos with avocado (con todo cebolla y cilantro con aguacate) and this lady had my meal come out with just the tortilla meat and avocado when I know damn well I had asked her to include the cilantro and onions. Barely ever stopped by the table to check on us and when I was able to get a hold of her regarding about the missing toppings on my taco she just walked away and bought out a plate of onions and cilantro 10 minutes after which at that point my food was cold. I’m a server myself and I get there’s days where it’s hard but this was just horrible especially after I came here working a long shift and wanted to enjoy my comfort meal instead I left angry and irritated after also realizing she got the meat wrong 2/4 tacos I had but didn’t bother telling her about it as I was not in the mood to dispute it with her nasty attitude I just wanted to leave. I didn’t even bother leaving tip which I normally do. If you want good service go to Conzumel near Brady sucks they’re not open late like El Toro otherwise probably would have avoided this terrible experience.
Update: I was here late Friday...
Read moreMy friends and I went to this restaurant late night. There were 4 of us that had tacos and aguas frescas. When we got the bill they were trying to charge us $110 for our tacos. $110!!! They have absolutely no shame!! I made the lady list out exactly what she was charging me which came out to $45.50. Without tax and without tip. On the receipt on the right they itemize everything then sneak in a tip ($14 in my case which they don’t tell you is a tip) then they double the total on their register. They are robbing our community to our faces. I’ve had this happen multiple times but didn’t gather proof until now when our bill was extremely excessive for tacos. I will be sharing this on every platform until they stop robbing their customers and...
