We had a really awkward experience at Breakside Milwaukie location today. My friend was told to leave by a server because she had brought along her toddler in their stroller. When asked the rationale the server told us they weren’t allowed to serve minors. We assured them that the baby would not be ordering a beer. Nor be given alcohol as this obviously would be a travesty. The server retorted that they couldn’t be sure that this was true. Going so far as to verbally usher us out which created a bizarre scene witnessed by other patrons. In conclusion my friend just wanted to socialize with her friends in an outdoor setting responsibly/respectfully. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve witnessed parents bringing their infants or children to a Portland brewery with no ill intent or consequence. Needless to say we went to a different location...
Read moreBreakside is, more than any other place that comes to mind, all about the beer. Before you find the building itself, it's clear that you're in a light industrial, production setting - take the first, rightmost entrance off of International Way to find Breakside. Why is this space one of the best beer stops in Portland? Well, the obvious reason is the beer, it is simply the best and certainly sets the bar high. However, I also think the taproom manager, Stephanie, deserves much of the credit for the location’s success. She’s always got time for a smile and a quick chat, but she’s also very aware of the space and the work. Breakside is fortunate to have both her talent...
