Was really looking forward to this place, as we regularly go to the Carson City location and the Overland, but I've been in three times since it opened and the bar service has been completely abhorrent all three times. I've typically had to wait 15 minutes or more just to get a beer, even when the place is not that busy and there are multiple staff working behind the bar. The majority of the bar staff seems incompetent, distracted, and inattentive at best. Not only is the service terrible, but they have embraced out-of-control tipping culture for providing no services -- I have no idea why I should be tipping someone for standing in line for the privilege of ordering a beer, so I would recommend using cash if you feel pressured by the TIP ME prompt at the register. I did eventually learn that there is a self-service kiosk, which may help alleviate the wait, and I'll give a try if I decide to go back. Maybe I'll even tip myself 20% for taking my own order next time. The outdoor beer garden is a nice addition and is much needed in the Carson Valley. However, there are not enough tables outside and for some reason the design feels off to me. Further, the layout of the bar and the interior also feels somewhat strange to me. The angles of the bar and the seating area just feel somewhat odd. I haven't eaten here yet, but the food does appear to be really good for what they are offering, although it seems a bit pricey. The deep dish Detroit-style pizza looks and smells great, and the burgers and fries seem to be the same outstanding offerings you'd find at their other locations. The addition of the meat shop is nice, and I'd love to support local beef producers, but a lot of the product is pre-packed in vacuum-packaging and some is frozen. I'd be more likely to purchase the beef there if it was a true butcher shop, and would be happy to pay a bit of a premium to support local farmers. It's too bad so far. I may give it one more try, but I have a hard time giving a place like this my returning business, when the service is just not good and it just cause me frustration. If the service improves, it could definitely be a great place to hang out, but for now, it's just not a pleasurable experience. I understand it is a difficult time as an employer to find good staff, but I would highly suggest the management closely monitor the staff and make changes quickly, or this location may end not being...
Read moreWhat a disaster. Severely, poorly managed. This new, no server, no organization business model is unsanitary, unwelcoming and if an actual owner would be in there on a Saturday night to see how this place was run they should understand why, me, as a local will never return and will certainly tell anybody else that I know to not waste their time or money. Standing there for 20 minutes to try to order a beer without any eye contact from the "bar tender" when I finally got discouraged and asked her "can I order a beer" she told me to walk over to a kiosk. My wife was sitting at the table with my kids trying to order food but they're software is so on user-friendly that she still hadn't been able to order food by the time I got fed up with trying to get us a beer, since you can't order beer on the software either. There's no waiters, no waitresses, one buser- that doesn't know how to clean tables. But you can stand in line 15 people deep for your food then they ask for a tip on top of it.... It was utterly disappointing experience for me and my family. I've eaten there before their food is mediocre at best. At least in Reno you get decent service. Here, there's none of that. If you want finding go to CV steak at the Carson Valley Inn (great food, great service, good prices considering). If you want a good beer selection go to Minden Meat and Deli. If you want a unique local experience go to the JT. I don't know why everybody's so excited about this as an addition to Minden... it's a bad joke from the weird parking and trying to get out, service, mediocre beer(flat drafts) trust me I got to see a lot of beer poured while I was standing there. Dirty tables, no menus, unintuitive software to order from your table... Even if they had someone to inform you of their unorthodox ways to try and provide a restaurant service... Instead it's more like "figure it out on your own, pay, get your food, clean up after yourself and then get out...." Oh yeah, don't forget the great ol "it's going to ask you a question".... Pandering for a tip for no service. Obviously I'm a little disappointed but don't waste your time here.. Go somewhere more wanting and deserving of...
Read moreI have loved going to Great Basin locations in Reno and Sparks over the past 10 years, and I was very excited for the brewery to open a location in Minden, closer to where I live. The beer and food was excellent, as per usual. However, the ordering system and dining layout is not optimal. It did not feel like a brewery that has a full restaurant menu, like the Reno and Sparks locations. Upon entering, you get in a line to order food at the front counter (or skip the line and order yourself at a kiosk), and then you have to find yourself a table. This feels like a fast food joint. I had to stand around, hovering over occupied tables, waiting for someone to leave to grab it before anyone else waiting could, since you can't tell who's been waiting longer. We got a table, that was dirty and did not see any supplies to wipe it down ourselves. It was hard to hear food orders being served up at the pick-up counter once they were ready, so my husband stood up there waiting while I kept our table. Unfortunately, you can't order beer at the same time you order food, so we had to squeeze in between people sitting at the bar counter eating, to order our beer. I'm not sure why they changed their dining experience, but I highly recommend going back to how Reno and Sparks function. I love Great Basin Brewery and want it to flourish in...
