As a manager of a small family owned and ran business, I was thrilled to give this local business a try. To set the scene: We arrived around 7:50, as we were being seated, two other tables were walking out. Leaving just our table of 4 and one other table of similar size in the entire restaurant.
We ordered almost immediately after sitting down and were excited as the atmosphere seemed nice. Around 8:15 our salads arrived, we all laughed about how the salads weren't much for having taken over 20 minutes to get - but said nothing as we were anxious for our steaks and didn't want to be of issue to the staff. They had informed us that they were down a cook and because of that they were running behind, I of course felt bad as a manager so why would I want to cause an issue for them?
Around 8:35 as we were waiting for our meals to come, my step father asked the server if she had an idea of when the meal would be out - to which the server responded "You haven't even been waiting that long" in a snarky tone. I was dumbfounded. I manage a customer service desk as well as was a sever for over 4 years in college - the amount of answers that would have been more appropriate are overwhelming, but she chose to be rude.
So when she came back over to fill our waters a few moments later, I expressed to her that almost 50 minutes to wait for a steak is actually a very long time to wait when there is only 1 other table in the entire restaurant and that I felt that her comment was rude.
I'm not sure what I expected as a response - but her and the crew of old ladies that run this place all started storming over to our table to yell at us about how they char-broil their steak; was not what I thought was going to happen.
As we are being ATTACKED by the people who run this business, I put my arms in the air and said "Enough, get us boxes and our bill - this is insane and we are leaving" So as they comply to grab us to go boxes - the server says over her shoulder, "how about another drink too, drunks, I'll call the police"
I'm literally speechless at this point - I being the only person who had a glass of wine as we waited for our food - stood up and asked her to repeat herself louder for me but she just continued to walk away.
There are several other comments from both them and us that aren't worth wasting your time on - however you should read other reviews that confirm these accusations as clearly we weren't the first people to receive awful service with a subpar steak that took...
Read moreWe attended an Anniversary dinner at the Black Steer Restaurant. We had reservations for 5:00 P.M and were seated at that time. We we're seated at the table next to the fireplace. It was a perfect table for such an important event. The staff took pictures for us which allowed for everyone to be in them. After this, we placed our drink order. Our server was one of the owners, she was very pleasent and gave us a history of the restaurant. After receiving our drinks, we placed our food order. The restaurant started to get busy but the staff seemed to keep ahead of it. We all received our dinners at once. They arrived on a large cart with a large bowl on top. I noticed the server was taking my filet from the heated bowl which contained beef broth. This process keep the meat moist and heated from the kitchen to the table. Worked very well. Everyone had a great meal except one in our party who ordered the Pork Chops. The chops arrived very dry and tough. He isn't one to complain so he let it go. The only problem we encountered was the staff missed a few requests for little thing after our meals arrived. This coincidence with the restaurant becoming busy. If not for this, we'd say the night was perfect. No biggie, we all had a great dinner with great friends . I'd recommend the Black Steer for any special event or just...
Read moreThe best filet steak you will have, but at a price that fits rural America. The cities will charge $60+ for this meal, which is only about $30 here. The only other item that I have ordered is the ribs, which are also quite good. This is a small business that is only open on weekends, so they don't have the luxury of several servers on the staff. If you want the best steak in the tri-state area, go there and order the filet. If you prefer quick service and a lot of food fast, go to Bonanza or something else. I'm not sure what others are comparing this to, but you should not be in and out of a steakhouse in under an hour. At times the Black Steer's service can leave a bit to be desired, but order a drink and relax. Order the filet and know that you made a good decision. Did I mention to order the filet? We continue to have our Christmas party here each year, because the filet...
