My husband and I stopped in for lunch after trying to find a restaurant with a nice patio. The Iron Griz did not disappoint. The patio overlooks the University golf course and it's quite gorgeous. We had Jen as our server and she was super friendly and very helpful. She told us they try to source locally and a lot of their veggies come from the UM garden. We ordered a couple of beers and some fresh straight out-of-the-fryer chips, with truffle salt. Wow, they were tasty. I ordered the taco trio and my hubby ordered the Griz burger --it had an egg on it, how cool is that!?! It was good, but he said he would add another patty next time to make it even better. The tacos were tasty, but I think I would like to try something else from them because it all sounded so good. We got two desserts, the tear drop hazelnut cream brulee --it was just as yummy as it looked. I would say it tasted more like a mousse than a cream brulee, but that's just me. I could eat that every night. It was scrape-the-plate good!! We also got the fresh baked cookie. It was so cute in its little cast iron skillet. It was served with a scoop of Big Dipper vanilla ice cream on top. I think a bit of hot fudge would've had me swooning. We will definitely come back for more.

Never in my life did I ever feel so unwelcome! Our party of 6 had a reservation for 6:30. This was all of our first experience at this restaurant. It was maybe 30 min later we realized we were the only people there. You would think that meant the service would be good, right? The service was terrible!!! The menus never left our table, we had to constantly ask the extra plates and cups to be cleared. The food took so long and it came out COLD. So why do we feel so unwelcome? Although the service was miserable the company we kept was enjoyable. It was 8:00 and the Resturant was calling for “last call” and turned the lights down to signal it’s time to go. The Resturant doesn’t close until 9:00 PM. So we stayed and ignored the single. It was close to 9:00 when the restaurant started filling up with the servers FRIENDS. Everything became clear….it’s Saturday, get out so we can hang with our friends. Someone owns this place. Someone is paying these people. That “someone” should know what’s going on.

Significant other and i went here for the first time today and it was amazing! We started with the corn bread basket as well as fried okra. Both were delicious and the portions were large enough that we didn't finish them before the entrees arrived. Definitely a lot of appetizer for a great price! I had the Smokey Chicken Andouille Gumbo that was SO TASTY! My significant other had the Catfish Fingers (which we both found divine) that came with some of the best fries I've had in a long time. The portions of the entrees were quite large and awesomely priced. And one of the coolest attributes is that all of the produce is grown on-site! The service here is STELLAR (Mason rocks!!) and the atmosphere is super cozy. We sat outside and enjoyed quite a beautiful view. We are definitely going back!

Went for a trail run up Sentinel with my husband, and then we were hungry. We came to the Iron Griz for the first time. We sat outside, where we enjoyed a view of the golf course and Mt. Sentinel. They were green and lush and beautiful and we had the thought that we often have, of how fortunate we are to live in Missoula. Our server was extremely attentive, and we felt very relaxed. I had the Fried Green Tomato BLT. It was excellent. I was very happy.

Then my husband tried his fried chicken. His eyes lit up. He said "You have to try this." I took a bite. It was the best fried chicken I've ever had. The outside was crispy and salty and wonderful. The inside was so moist. It was piping hot. The pimento cheese biscuit that came with it was wonderful. I don't love cole slaw ever, but my husband said it was the perfect accompaniment to the chicken, cutting through the flavors perfectly. I loved the chicken so much that my husband gave me one of his pieces in exchange for half my BLT. This is one of the reasons I married him.

So, if you want to sit outside and have a really pretty view, very kind service, and the best fried chicken ever, definitely give the Iron Griz a try....
