Country Cafe (Tracy, MO) — Restaurant in Missouri

Okay, I spent the night here. I am a truck driver last night's meal was great. I had breakfast for dinner okay it was awesome biscuits and gravy over medium eggs cooked perfectly, absolutely marvelous! Just make sure you ask for crispy hash browns! ;) So I thought I'd do a repeat for breakfast, but the problem is the cooks are not the same, and... I got the French toast special. (bad idea) Big mistake AND major disappointment...the French toast looked done--but it was so soggy. I only managed a few bites. I LOVE French toast! It's one of my favorite breakfast foods! Whomever cooked that order needs to practice on French toast. Oh...and last nights biscuits and gravy ? AWESOME! I have a feeling that's what I shoulda had for breakfast! Bottom line? DONT GET THE FRENCH TOAST--EVER! When I told my server about it when I was getting ready to check out (because I didn't want a repeat, I didn't want someone to think that they could just make the same thing for me again in the same manner and it all be good) she offered me a 10% discount. I told her that wasn't enough, the French toast was the main part of the meal and I was not able to eat it so no 10% was not good enough. Then she comps the whole meal, which, no, I was not wanting her to do that! I was willing to pay for the sausage at least because that's all they put on the plate two pieces of sausage and freaking French toast and that was all! And she goes no no I just comp'ed it, you're fine. No that was not fine...so I had a little cash and handed that to her -- she took that, of course. Now, moral of the story here, she was very professional, she did real well I did not expect the meal to be free that was not on my agenda at all. I hope she did not take it personally because it was not against her it was really a problem with whoever cooked that French toast. Don't ever order the taco salad, it was absolutely horrible. It's a regular salad in a ceramic bowl with 3 single rings of red onion and one little tomato wedge. They fry a hamburger patty that they sprinkle with taco seasoning, chop up after it's cooked and serve on a side plate. Instead of a taco shell bowl, it seemed like they fried a flour tortilla and cut it into wedges like a chip so it was corroded with oil and very chewy. Menu said it came with mexiranch dressing but server didn't know what I was talking about. No sour cream, asked for salsa and she brought cocktail sauce.

Don't get me wrong, I eat here a couple of times a month and it's usually pretty good. Our server was a little forgetful but super friendly. The tenderloin sandwich the other party ordered was delicious as usual. This place seems to be a hit and miss sort of establishment. Sometimes it's a 5/5 and other days not so much. Food was good til I found a hair on the plate. Then the manager tried saying it wasn't any of the employees gave me a 10% discount I ate about 3/4 of the food. The waitress never once asked me how everything was before I found the hair that was because she was busy chatting with the other waitress at the front counter about work. It felt like the manager was putting the blame on me for the hair. Granting he did asked me how he could make it right. I honestly didn't know I've never been in that kind of situation before. If I were the manager I would of just apologized and compted the meal. But that's just me. Not try and put the blame on the customer which I'm not sure if he realized that's what he did. The food was good ( accept the hair) the service needs a little more. None of the waitresses smiled. I will be returning I'm always about second chances. Hopefully next time...
