Being from Socal, the Mexican food in Modesto in general is horrible but this place is really a hidden gem. Tried many places and I think I finally found Modestos best kept secret. The place isn't the most welcoming, it can use an update/remodel because it looks like a taco shack out of Tijuana in the hood but do NOT let it fool you, the food is better than decent. My family had tortas ahogadas and burritos and when you order the food, they actually take time MAKING the food which I appreciate a lot. Trust me, I can see good food in the making, unlike most Modesto places that already have everything prepared making it un-authentic. The inside isn't the prettiest but it's the food that counts and here definitely it counts. The down side is that because it's located in an industrial area, they close at 3 pm everyday. So, if you want that delicious food, you have to get it early. Parking is also limited, this is a place where you pass by and if you see a space then you eat there but if you don't see space then you move on. I'm really reluctant to tell the owner, who works there with he's wife and family to really consider remodeling the place, because that will bring more people in my estimation. Especially if more parking is added. Now, my favorite part is that the cooking area is cleaned, a very big one for me. Every spot I go to I always try looking at their kitchen, it tells you a lot. I got to say that I'm really impressed with how clean they have it. They try making an effort for design and for that I give them credit. The only reason they don't get the 5 stars is because they are lacking some really good authentic salsas. Some thick Molcajete Guadalajara style salsas. But, the food is better than average and this place is my #1 in Modesto for now. Highly recommend the torta ahogada which is about a foot long and you'll need 2 ppl to eat that because almost everyone cannot finish it by themselves. Overall, this is by far the best I've come across here in Modesto. Give this hole in the wall a try and I promise you that you will not be...
Read moreThe customer service is TERRIBLE!!!! My husband and I ordered two shrimp tacos and two fish tacos. He called and placed the order over the phone and asked the guy if the fish tacos were spicy and they said no. When I ate my fish tacos it was spicy and EXTREMELY fishy (meaning it was not good, spoiled fish) I called and told them that the fish taco was fishy and spicy and that I could not eat it. I had one left. I asked them if they could give me something else because I couldn’t eat it and they gave me MAJOR attitude. They told me that they didn’t make it for me that they made it for my husband. They argued with me back and forth in front of other customers. Me being a woman I never felt so disrespected by a man, the manager and another gentleman. I told them that I’m the customer and they are suppose to make me happy. The managers exact words were “no that’s not right, here take your money. All of this over $2.50. I did not want to get sick and I wanted them to know so they wouldn’t feed that fish to...
Read moreAbsolutely the tastiest breakfast burritos I've had in a long time! I had the bacon (no salsa) with sour cream, my husband had bacon and ham with sour cream green sauce on the side. They did not disappoint! They were cheesy, eggy, and had well seasoned potatoes sauteed with green bell peppers.
Great portion very filling! Definitely a must try for breakfast. We will be trying other items on their menu.
This place is a hidden gem! Go get some home cooking people!!!
Gracias la comida...
