1st time here, was excited to try The Coxcomb & meet my friend for drinks and an appetizer. Right away I was pretty shocked at the drink prices. The bartender was very helpful with explaining the types of alcohol in the drink I was interested in, The Yuletide Spritzer. Drink was good, ended up getting 2, but the glass was filled to the brim with ice so there was not much of the cocktail in there. We decide to shared the smoked queso…it looked like thick, lumpy dog vomit. I asked the bartender what was in it out of curiosity…she looked at it and said she wasn’t sure pepper and other stuff. She then asked us if it tasted ok since it didn’t look right tonight and she had been telling people they were out of it. The guy who was serving us apparently thought it was ok? She said it looked like it was sitting in the warmer to long and thickened up since it usually doesn’t look that way. She offered to get us salsa and take the queso off the bill, which we appreciated. The pickled salsa was pretty gross too, so we just ate chips. Our bill for 4 cocktails, chips & salsa was $64…very expensive for drinks that didn’t even give the slightest buzz and eating just tortilla chips. Once we added in a tip and my half was $37, definitely not worth it. Needless to say this was my first and last time here.

This is the worst restaurant I've been to consecutively in the Pittsburgh area. I have been here exclusively for drinks twice, and food plus drinks 4 times (total of 6 times). I really enjoy beerhive which is near my office so I've given this place way too many chances. I can say they have the worst cornbread, and the worst mahi I have ever had unfortunately, at higher prices than I should be paying. If you want to come here exclusively for cocktails its not terrible, but if you want food or craft beer, then you should go elsewhere. The cocktails are ok, and surprisingly their calamari is also OK (but overcooked). Everything else I have had here is extremely disappointing. The seared Mahi for lent is the first time I have never finished a Mahi tuna dinner. It was crunchy and super salty. The elote cornbread here is the worst cornbread I have ever had. It is dry, and has no flavor. I've tried this place six times only because I really wanted to like it. But I really hope the owners make an attempt to improve, because it is the worst food I have suffered through multiple times in the pittsburgh area. This is no knock to the staff as they have been great every time. but based on the terrible quality, I cannot give this place more than 1 star.

I was very tempted to not post anything about The Coxcomb, because we loved it so much and I want it to be my hidden gem. However, these guys deserve to get credit for doing a fantastic job. The atmosphere from the outside is super unassuming because it's in a strip mall but when you walk in it's obvious a lot went into making this place fantastic. The giant bar is very inviting and there's a deceptively large amount of seating including a room in the back that can be closed off. They are serving legitimate chef quality food and clearly care not only about the flavor but also the presentation. There are food styles and prices to match any palate and budget and the service is friendly, accurate, and quick which is truly the cherry on top for your visit. Our experience was with their steak and pizza and both were to die for. Having visited dozens of pizza places in the Pittsburgh area The Coxcomb can give any of them a run for their money with their creative toppings, such as fennel and sausage, to the fired to perfection hand tossed dough. If you're looking for a place for date night, or to bring the kids, or to watch the game and have a beer The Coxcomb checks all the boxes.

Update 7-7-2024: tried brunch, pancakes and pastrami hash.

Not good. Wife could not eat pancakes horrible taste.

Hash was super truck stop greasy. Potatoes undercooked. Teach the fork smash test to your staff maybe?

We just don't understand. If I owned a restaurant I would do taste tests on occasion. Most of these dishes.fail in some way and there is no.consistancy (see below).

Too bad. French fry platter is only thing we like, we are NOT PICKY EATERS!

Coxcomb is not gonna make it unless.they better their food. We tried 3 times!

Update on 12-28-2023:

My family and I were out and decided to go for the honey pepperoni pizza as we liked it. We'll, no good. It was so salty we could hardly eat it. Everyone said the same even with a difderent pizza. Sadly we told everyone how much we liked the hot honey pepperoni and we looked like fools as it was nasty.

Next as we were sharing the pizza, I decided to try a sandwich. Got the steak hogie. I have never eaten a sandwich that was so soaked with grease! It comes wrapped in white paper and was literally dripping through the paper! The bun was soggy with grease. I couldn't even eat half of it. How can anyone serve such a thing that way?

So now, the only thing we can recommend is their French fries. Unfortunate...we had high hopes for a better restaurant in Murrysville area. If they don't train there staff how to make food consistent and actually taste what they server, well they will go the way of the last place at same location.

Drop a star on my rating. Ok so this is my honest rating.

When we walked in, the place looks nice and clean. However immediately we noticed a problem. I'm not sure how people who remodel places do not understand acoustics!

They completely opened the Floorplan. There is not a single wall or separation anywhere! What this means is that even with just 25% occupancy, you can't hear yourself think, let alone have a conversation or phone call. There are no rugs.on any floors either. The sound carries all over. We sat in far corner and I couldn't hear a person on my phone! The bar noise carries to every seat. Not smart. The hard wood benches are appeasing to the eye, but end there. They are like a pair of women's shoes. Look nice, lack any kind of comfort! Bring a butt pad!

Next, several people raved about the pickle martini. Well unless you are pregnant or like to drink pickle juice from a jar with a little vodka and dill and salt on the rim, well then yuk, don't waste your money! Our beer came out Luke warm.

We ordered a salad, a pizza, and the beef butt bolenaise.

The salad was mostly ice berg lettuce. Boo. Cheap and nutrician-less. The dressing (dill ranch) saved a total loss there.

The bolonaise, well, lacked any meat! This is what makes bolonaise, bolenaise! If you know bolenaise, you.want to be punched in the face with MEAT FLAVOR. There was so little meat in this dish I had to ask my wife is she could see any either. It was like eating just above average noodles.

Now the pizza, that saved the meal! The hot honey pizza is very very good! It has a little zip, but not too much. It has a little sweet, but not too much. Crust was perfect and sauce A+! Its got like minced pepperoni on it, which is surprisingly good! Try this for sure.

Portion sizes were good, except for the pizza. A large is a small 8 cut. They stole a play from dominos i think where they call a barely medium pizza a large pizza. Not cool folks. Put some pizza on the plate.

Service was good overall but we lost our waitress at check time. Understand that, its a new place.

So overall if we were not captivated by that pizza, just your average dining experience, actually with an uncomfortable acoustic and seating experience which brought it down another notch. Go to have a quiet dinner at happy hour and 50% capacity and you will leave.deaf unfortunately. Patrons who are not at the bar, usually like to be able to have normal table conversations and not hear everyone at the bar like your...

Had dinner tonight if you want to call it that. Ordered the pierogies which were decent, except for the fried onions that tasted like they were made on Wednesday. Then the chicken mac with their allegedly good fried chicken instead of grilled. My wife ordered the "Wagyu" burger but let's be real, the only thing that maybe makes it Wagyu is the cow staring at a picture of a real Wagyu animal before it was slaughtered. This was 80/20 frozen burger from Sysco. Beyond that the burger was overcooked and overseasoned. I mean so over cooked this was congratulations, not just well done. I feel like I owed it a graduation present. My "pickle brined" fried chicken was so burnt to a crisp you could barely tell it was chicken, the mac n cheese part was okay. The menu is huge and yet somehow extremely limited, i can't even explain it, you just keep flipping it over and over again without finding anything you actually want, unless what you want is fried chicken then you're good to go, at least until you bite into it.

This was our second time visiting the Coxcomb since it opened, we live 3 minutes away. I would love for this to be a place we visit often but fool me once shame on you, this is twice so shame on me, I won't be back. BIG waste of 70$. Our server was lovely, it was a shame the very poorly trained host sat four tables in the bar at the exact same time and put her under water. Maybe one of the four servers filling water glasses for a party that hadn't arrived could have helped until the party arrived. Manager did come to apologize which was appreciated, shame we didn't realize how badly prepared our food was until we got home. Oh yeah I forgot to mention we had to get everything packed to go after waiting an hour to get this very simple order done, meanwhile we watched those other bar tables who arrived after us but were seated all at once each receive their meals before we did. I would have loved to explain all these issues to the manager when she touched our table but I was just grateful my Autistic 10-year old made it that far without a meltdown after the brief power outage (which happened 45 minutes after our order was placed), so we left as quickly as we could. He also didn't want to eat his burger at all,...

We went to dinner tonight. We were sat in the bar section with the tiniest most uncomfortable booth/table situation. the tables are bolted to the wall and floor and there is about 6 inches of space to sit and then you are chocked by the table. I also witnessed another table trying to even get into the booth as they had a child and a baby in a car seat. The car seat was too wide for the clearance from the seat to the table. I couldn't move so we asked to be sat at a table. There was an entire side of the restaurant that has low tables and chairs but the host put us at a high top. We ordered our food but it took some time to get our order in. Our waitress was doing her best since she was THE ONLY waitress in the entire bar side and that's including the section where the pizza oven is. She had 1 food runner. This woman had at least 12 tables...maybe more. To me, it's clearly stating that you don't care about your employee or the lack of service. our food took over 45 mins to come out, there was an electric outage for about 5 mins.....I am not an unreasonable person. I understand that could back up orders. But it should not have taken that long for us to get our food as all of the other tables that came in after us were all served and eating their food. The waitress finally came over and we said to just box it up. It took even longer to come out and the food was very hot. I believe they forgot our order and were rushing to get it together. We got the food home and it was sloppy and my side salad had iceberg and 4 croutons. We ordered the Mac and cheese and I ordered the burger with a side salad. It was awful. The burger was overcooked and the fries were black with an insane amount of seasoning. I know the fries are seasoned...but this was charcole. The chicken Mac and cheese was overcooked and the chicken was so hard it cut my husbands mouth. This was supposeed to be a special dinner as I am having major surgery and won't be able to eat solid foods for a few weeks. We paid over $70 for a horrible experience and even worse food. I would never recommend this...
