Work. Hike. Eat (Breakfast, That Is…). Repeat: After-Shift Adventures” After my shift, Its always a between going straight to hiking, new place for breakfast, or both. Montclair delivered both—starting with a crisp November hike - New York Skyline - Yesszzz!, and ending at Toast Montclair, where breakfast dreams come true. Walking into Toast felt like stepping into a warm hug. The space is so cozy it practically whispers, “Stay a while.” I kicked things off with a peppermint hot chocolate because November in Jersey demands it. Then came the real MVP: lemon poppy seed pancakes. These pancakes didn’t just show up—they showed out. Light, zesty, and paired with syrup so golden it might as well have been liquid gold. Add a side of turkey bacon, and I knew I’d found my new breakfast spot. But let’s not forget my favorite: Toast reminded me that healing isn’t just about yoga, meditation and such, —it’s about finding joy, even in the little things. I know how easy it is to get stuck in the work-care-repeat cycle. But this place? It’s a nudge to care for yourself, too. A reminder that you can heal by simply enjoying your surroundings. Pro Tips: 1. Order the lemon poppy seed pancakes. They’ll brighten your day, no matter how long your shift was. 2. Pair breakfast with adventure: Hit Hawk Watch for a quick climb before rewarding yourself with something sweet. 3. Savor it all. Don’t rush. Take your time to enjoy the moment—you deserve it. Here’s the truth: healing is variable. Sure, you could go home and crash—but why not take a moment to nurture yourself? For me, that looks like a warm breakfast, a hike, and a reminder to take up space and truly enjoy life. Corny Joke of the Day: What’s the best way to relax after a hike? -Toast your success with some pancakes Hahaha. (I’ll show myself out. But seriously, try the pancakes.)

I was told this is a must, go-to brunch spot when in New Jersey near Montclair (I'm a New Yorker). I did not enjoy the wait but did appreciate that there was a sidewalk vestibule at the entrance to keep the waiting people somewhat shielded from the cold winds and also the restaurants use of the "no.wait app" that texts you letting you know how long your wait is, how far along you are on the line and when your table is ready. The place is roomier than you'd think, warm and cozy looking. I was sat at a table near the entrance which I was not happy about- despite the vestibule- each time the door opened (which was often because of the place's popularity) I felt a chilly draft. The FOOD: very underwhelming. I got the cinnamon buns (not fresh), cream cheese filled challah toast (basically big French toast with low-flavor cream cheese), frijoles (a bit soggy but somewhat tasty), and chocolate chip pancakes (not freshly made pancakes). Overall the food came out veryyyy quickly which confirmed that the food was mass produced in advanced and simply heated up or kept in heated area ready to serve. I think a major contributing factor to this places popularity is simply that there are very few brunch spots in the area. All items were overpriced considering that none of it was freshly made. I would not recommend this place and unfortunately will not return.

Worst experience of my life. Went here for my sisters bday and waited 20 mins for DRINKS. It doesn’t stop there, I was given dirty utensils before and dirty utensils for my food! I cannot understand why staff or management don’t double check on utensils to make sure they are good to send to paying customers. On one of the plates the toast was BURNT! Now my family is not the type to do complaints but after the long waits and customer service I told the server about my experience and she stated “I wish you could have told me earlier”, let me make it clear that she barely came by our table for me to even say anything, the staff is everywhere and because of the long wait we decided to just leave because it’s not worth it but after her comment I felt the need to write this post. The only person who does their job right is the host and that’s it because even the guy with glasses who I assume is the manager barely asked how everything is going for us only selective people. Last time going here, don’t waste your time going to a dirty place who lacks customer service.

Great little location with very friendly staff. It was my first time here and it was definitely busy around 10:30 am on a Saturday. But I was just by myself so I went right in with a seat at the bar counter tucked a bit away. The two baristas there were attentive and patient. One recommended I try the French toast latte when I asked what was popular or special. She did caution me that it was sweet, which it definitely was, but it was tasty! I had the huevos rancheros after finally deciding on savory over sweet, but next time I've got my eye on the carrot cake pancakes. Lively atmosphere, good portions, and excellent service. I had brought a book to read in case there was a wait, and I did end up reading a little while I waited for my food and later as I finished my coffee. I didn't want to take up a spot for too long, but I think being at the counter wasn't an issue versus if I had a table. I'll be back again!

We loved the Asbury Park location and decided to try this location in Montclair. I’m a bit disappointed in the food. The service was great. Seating was easy at peak time on Friday for breakfast. I had the special drink which was iced strawberry matcha. Lacking flavor. Bland. Barely tasted any strawberry. I ordered scrambled eggs, potatoes and whole grain toast. My potatoes were dark and almost burned. As I looked around, anyone who ordered potatoes had the same. Which indicated to me they were not fresh. I did not complain. Because honestly I don’t think there was a fix for that. Eggs were blah. Nothing special. The large cinnamon bun was just “eeeh”. Felt like fast food. I feel something is missing in this location. They need to find it. It’s not the Toast I remember. Probably won’t come back.

Got here around 9am & Breakfast was absolutely yummy! Well flavored and came out pretty quickly. Parking is not great in the area but thankfully the Whole Foods lot is across the street. The ambiance is cozy, the staff was friendly & by the time we were leaving the line started to form. Keep in mind, this is Montclair so this spot is on the pricier side. We ordered the smoked salmon omelette with sweet potato fries, a waffle with side of egg whites & cheddar, avocado & Canadian bacon & two large orange juices. Our order came to about $68. When the same order at sayyy Chit chat diner, with the same great taste, would be half the price As of 10/8/23 still super tasty but pricey. Parking is tough so the Whole Foods parking lot is your best bet. The wait can also be long so def expect that.
