Parlor Hair Studio — Attraction in Montclair

Writing on behalf of my bestie because she's too nice to do it herself.

My drop-dead, bombshell of a best friend came in for a haircut two weeks ago with a head full of Pantene-commercial hair. Natural, thick, yellow-blonde hair straight down to her waist. It just grows out of her head that way-- a true miracle. She came in to see Mark David and asked for a simple trim with some very light layers. This is the same haircut she has asked for since we became friends in kindergarten and it has worked out the same way every time.

What she left with two hours later was nothing short of an actual tragedy. Several inches of her gorgeous mane gone, with atrociously uneven layers to boot. She even somehow ended up with bangs-- also uneven. My bestie was a solid, no questions asked 10. Now because of this terror attack she sits at a soft 6 and she won't stop wearing hats. I haven't seen her cry many times in our long, tenured friendship. But I saw her cry the day she left that salon. Proceed...

Really disappointed by my last experience at Parlor. My one instruction to Candice, which I repeated a number of times (especially as I got more and more concerned that she wasn't following my wishes) was that she not cut my hair so short that the front hair would fall out of a low to my neck ponytail. Sure enough, here I am two-three weeks later and my hair, which was previously a good ways past my shoulders, will not stay in a ponytail.

And don't even get me started on the "junior stylist" who was assigned to cut my older daughter's hair but was so incompetent that my stylist had to intervene and take over as soon as my hair was done. Danielle continues to give a good haircut (she did my younger daughter), but I was really disappointed overall and after ten years and supporting them through the fire, I think it's time for me to find a...

Update! The owner was so caring and reached out to make sure my concerns were heard. I went for my second haircut and I left as happy as clam. Hannah once again did a great job! Especially since I’ve been postpartum and my hair has been a hot mess. We discussed hair styles to help hide any hormonal hair loss which still feeling chic.

Old review: So disappointed in scheduling. I had an amazing haircut by Hannah. Scheduled my second cut, took off of work early and when I arrived they told me I didn’t have an appointment. It took me three weeks to get this appointment. They said I was scheduled for another day in the morning (which I would never have agreed to).
