Hillside Sports Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Monticello

GreatfGreat and for the most part a very accommodating staff with fast service. I have had problems with a couple employees there being rude to me on the phone and there's one man in particular that is very rude when you call. He says the least amount of words as possible making you feel like you're a burden ordering food. He doesn't ever say thank you or bye on the phone, instead he just hangs up and he sounds annoyed making you feel like you're a big inconvenience.

Also, sometimes I have problems with asking for my food to be cooked a certain way. Like asking for extra toppings on a pizza, few steaks undercooked or overcooked, putting hash browns or fries in the same box as the steak which causes sides to be soggy/inedible, and asking for extra Ranch. More often than not I don't get what I ask for, so I've learned to be articulate about what I want. I'm not sure whether they don't hear me when I ask for it or they just don't care or they don't write it down but it happens too often.

Even with all of that it is a great place to eat and it's open more hours than any other restaurant in Monticello.

The hillside isn't just a clever name. It's on an actual hillside which leads up from the main drag to a dirt and gravel parking lot. The whole thing is tucked away from view and you're likely to miss the turn if you aren't paying attention. We visited during the day, but I could imagine this place getting pretty lively at night once the kids are tucked away. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old industrial building, by which I mean lots of corrugated metal punctuated with wooden (?) dividers and a hard, slightly cool feel. The price for food and drinks was quite reasonable and the menu presentation is definitely punching upwards. My friend ordered a quesadilla for us to share and I swear the thing was about 95% ground beef. It boggles my mind what passes for Mexican cuisine in some places, but I guess it can't be helped. We had a family gathering at Hillside last Sunday. We had 19 people with us. We had 1 waitress, for all 19 people ....she was phenomenal! I wish I remembered her name! We were very well taken care of. We got drinks, appetizers, and then all ordered a meal. All of our food was out within probably 25 minutes. We were very impressed for this big of a party. Several ordered the wing special, several ordered the ribeye sandwich. Everyone said their food was really good. Out of all of these orders, only 1 order came out incorrectly, it was bbq wings instead of buffalo. She offered to fix it but we said bbq would be fine. We will definitely be back for...
