By far the most authentic feeling speakeasy I've been to ever. At one point I went to every speakeasy in Colorado save two. Most were more like big cocktail lounges or just didn't have the right "feel" of a speakeasy. Phelananies nails it. The interior with leather couches and chairs divided by lace curtains creates the feel of smaller private lounges. The decorations, lighting, and music fit perfectly to create the perfect vibe. At the end of it all, we go to a speakeasy for drinks. Braden and his team create spectacular cocktails with fresh ingredients that are muddled for each guest. The balance in each drink is perfect. These folks are true professionals that treat mixology with respect. They are courageous in their creations and always impress. Phelananies has curated, truly, the finest liquors available. Their whiskey selection is amazing and is sure to excite even the most experienced connoisseur of the dark spirits. Yet fear not, their stunning collection of the remaining alcohols deserve great respect. If you are visiting Montrose, passing through, are new to town, or a veteran that just hasn't been in yet, I'd fervently encourage you to go. Bring your sweetheart for a romantic date or go with some friends for a fun and...

If you like a well-designed cocktail (alcoholic or not), this award-winning speakeasy is one of the places you must not miss if you find yourself in the town of Montrose in the evening. The servers are very helpful, the bartender extremely well-versed in the science of mixology and the decor and atmosphere are everything you would expect to find in a speakeasy. They also hold classes in the arts of mixing from time to time. You must go to the website for the password. The dress code is not as strict as a big-town speakeasy and what I really like about a place like this is that you are about 95% likely to run into the owners on any given night, who will just appear like any other customer at the bar. I must warn you, their motto says, "no snitches," and you must abide, because the owner is a former police officer who has most likely experienced far more dynamic crimes than your lackluster escapades; and, if they are current endeavors, well, who really wants to be a self-snitch's accomplice anyway, before or after the fact? They also have small bites to pair with your...

I recently visited Phelanies not knowing what to expect, but I was quite impressed! This place rivals some of the best speakeasies I’ve been too, even in much bigger and more popular cities. The atmosphere is perfectly elevated yet comfortable. Service was very friendly and personable. The menu was impressive, and the smoked old fashioned detailed craft and presentation and was one of the more impressive cocktails I’ve had recently. The prices were very affordable. Make sure you check their FB page ahead of time to get the password to be let in. I hope to be in Montrose so I can come...

I felt like we traveled back in time, and enjoyed excellent drinks and food. Each drink was packed with flavor, there were no "wimpy tastes" and each one was very distinct. The food was hot and fresh, the wontons were crispy as was the bacon and smoked Gouda balls. The service was over the top, they were attentive, extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I cannot say enough good things about this experience we had, it is one we will all remember for the rest of our lives. We traveled over 200 miles to visit this time and place, and we will be returning often.

Such a cute idea. You can get the password to get in from Facebook or from your receipt from Horsefly (same owners). You could tell the bartenders lied their craft. Every drink was made with care and pride. It took a bit to get our drink order because of that but the wait was well worth it. We did not get any food but someone from our B&B did and said the food was great. Food was mainly snack type items.
