If you are looking for authentic Thai food, this is yet another place that disappoints. For about $20+, I did get a nice hunk of grilled Ahi (although it was overdone), a few shrimp, and sparse steamed veggies. Almost as an after thought, a bland red curry sauce was added. The dish also had a scope of Jasmine rice. It was apparent that the bland curry sauce was cooked alone & tasted just as bland as the owners other nearby Take Out place. The ingredients were generally seemed fresh...except for the wilted Basil. If one had no clue about was Thai food should taste like, then either place will do. Especially since the clueless girl who took the order did not even ask about what level of spiciness you wanted, you could tell immediately that this was not true Thai food. Apparently, they likely make it bland to cater to American tastes & also to cut down on the costs of the spices/ complexity involve. Interestingly enough there are several other Thai places in the greater SLO area that are generally more authentic.
As for the dinning experience....well just as there other place, it is mostly sit-down self-serve outside experience. Since you have limited choices in this area....fairly decent-good dinning is either here...or across the street at the Sculpted Egg.
Here at this Cafe, if you get the Thai mindset out of your head, you can enjoy it better. Again the Ahi was very good, but overdone on the grill.
Oh...BTW the wait can be significant & is just as long as across the street in...
Read moreYesterday I ate lunch at Noi's Second Street Cafe in Baywood -Los Osos California and the Thai Yellow Curry Chicken with noodles was the second BEST curry dish that I have ever had! And for comparison purposes, the first best that I have ever tasted was every time that I went to The Berkeley Thai Buddhist Temple food at Wat Mongkolratanaram in Berkeley California. This Thai Temple has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area community on weekends and has routinely been voted by the people of the San Francisco Bay Area as the best location to get authentic Thai food produced by the people who attend the Wat Mongkolratanaram Temple. And the food is always served with an authentic smile and compassion as they see the Buddha in everyone. Otherwise, I would have given Noi's first place for the Yellow Chicken Curry and Noodles dish that I had at lunch with a friend. The Curry had high quality spices that were fresh and perfectly blended in the coconut base. There was fresh basil and other garnishes. In short it was delicious! And soo affordable. I will definitely return soon to try other items on the menu. In the past I have had the homemade chili with generous amounts of very fresh and healthy vegetables. It too was remarkable. The chili comes with three mini cornbread muffins to complement the chili. I highly recommend that you try the chili if you are looking for something that is healthy and will keep you satiated while visiting Los Osos and Morro Bay or Montana De Oro...
Read moreIt's good food and you get a good amount for a decent price and up until now it was my goto when i was in the area but on my last trip there something rubbed me the wrong way...I noticed the price of the egg rolls were 50 cents more if you get the 6 pack compared to buying 6 individual rolls. Now I understand not everyone is a numbers person so I asked to get 6 individually priced egg rolls and the nice girl at the register stated she never noticed and of course she would price them individually. No problem until out comes who I'm guessing is the owner to correct the girl on her mistake and let her know she must ring them up with the 50 cent extra charge. Now I might be mistaken but I can't remember one time I have ever been charged extra for buying a larger quantity of anything. I know it's only 50 cents but the fact they are purposely being misleading with the price and putting their employees in that position doesn't sit right with me at all. I will be visiting Sylvesters when I'm in Los osos from now on. Played...
