Mount Pleasant Smokehouse… yeah, that’s a no from me.
While waiting for my order, I watched other customers' meals and already had a feeling this would be money wasted. I took everything home to give it a fair shot, so here we go:
Mashed Potatoes – Definitely better with gravy. The homestyle potatoes, with the peel included, were a nice touch. Without gravy, they needed salt and pepper. The gravy itself had a brown mushroom flavor that gave the potatoes some much-needed taste.
Hushpuppies – Crispy on the outside, soft and full on the inside. No complaints here.
Baked Beans – A complete miss. No flavor at all—just bland, straight-out-of-the-can vibes.
Ribs – They pulled apart easily, but despite the light saucing, they had no real flavor.
Brisket – Had a nice smoky taste, but definitely needed sauce. Unfortunately, the vinegar-based sauce they provided was a mistake—thin, watery, and just bad.
Chicken – The best thing I tried. Lightly sauced, with a good smoky flavor that actually carried through the meat.
I hope they improve, but for me, this was a one-and-done experience. #GratuityAdded

Read moreDidn't like any of the food. Pretty decor on the inside. While our waitress seemed to have absolutely no experience waiting on tables, she was friendly. The other server seemed very experienced and prompt. Every employee smiled which I loved! The barbecue was so fatty I probably picked out half of it as fat ( shown on the right side of my plate) it is cooked in a sauce that didn't give it a very good taste. More of a western style flavor. The fries weren't cooked all the way. The baked beans have some sort of perhaps a bourbon BBQ sauce in them. They were ok but seemed like they could have been cooked longer. The vinegar sauce on the table is pretty much just vinegar. The BBQ sauce was typical BBQ sauce. The mustard sauce is very mustardy. The hushpuppies were the dry kind. Not a ton of flavor. And cold. But I was expecting cold due to them being busy. Overall I was really excited about this place and could have overlooked a lot of things since this is week one of opening, but the flavors themselves will make me not come back. I felt like the food was low quality. I actually wondered if they ran out of BBQ and went to the store to get some more to make it through the day! Maybe I'll visit after a few months to see if anything has changed but for now, there are better restaurants in...
Read moreThis was not our first time at the smokehouse but this was the worst experience we had. It was busy so we expected delays so that was not a problem. However, our chicken wings arrived to the table with feathers still on (not just a stray feather here or there but covered in feathers). Our burgers were burned and dried out. Even our kids couldn't eat them. The bacon on the burgers was somehow simultaneously burned beyond recognition and ice cold. The Mac and cheese was dried out. We couldn't get napkins despite asking twice. The server never came to ask how the food was because if she had we would have said something. If we hadn't been so hungry after a day of traveling, we would have walked out without eating. Even my teenage son didn't want to risk dessert there if the food was so bad. We told the waitress about everything that was wrong when she finally came with the check because it was the only time we saw her to tell her and nothing was done about it. We wouldn't...
