La Cabana — Restaurant in Mount Vernon

We have been to this restaurant 3 times now and there is always an issue. The food is always good. However, the customer service is not. Charging $.95 for water is absurd, especially in a college town, but they give college students a discount, which in turn is made up with the water charge-how convenient! This visit, our waiter did not refill our drinks after we got our food, in fact, he didn’t come back until we were all done. So we asked for large to go drinks and the check. He didn’t let us know there would be an extra charge. We got our check and we were charged $2.45 each for our tea at the table and $2.95 each for the large to go teas. We said something and the lady took off the tea to go charges with argument. She would not give our daughter’s student ID discount because school didn’t start until Monday, even though she moved in early to be a student leader. We were going to buy ice cream, but not from people who do not appreciate the customers they do have. My husband is a great tipper, but it is a pet peeve not to have refills, so needless to say it was not a good tip. He was taking trash to the can outside and he was reading the signs on the door. The lady came flying out there and said she was just trying to make and if he had a problem he should have said something. We did. She said she took all of the tip off and then tried to slam the door on him!! Absolutely will not go back-she could make it by offering better service to the customers and the...

La Cabaña was the 1st restaurant we visited after Helene’s wrath of destruction. We’ve always enjoyed our meals from La Cabana but for some reason they have just seemed exceptionally delicious since Helene.

I always enjoy starting off with the queso and chips while my husband enjoys the Salsa. Then I always get the same thing whether lunch or dinner… The lunch #8 no beans all rice. My husband likes just about everything on the menu, so he tries something different every time. And on this visit, he ordered the “Freddy Burger”. Where do you think they got the name Freddy Burger from???

But to have a burger from a Mexican restaurant, it looked really good and he said, it tastes even better...

This past Saturday(02/03/2024) my family and I had such a terrible experience here. They wont be seeing us again! Horrible customer service! We were not welcomed and automatically sat in the back room when there were plenty open tables in the front. It’s almost like it was their mission to make us so uncomfortable that we would leave, which we did. And to add the cherry on top when we let her, who I assume to be the owner, know we wouldnt be staying her reply was “Perfect”. Very weird. I guess we didn’t fit the description of the kind of customers they were...
