I would give it 2 and a half if I could...
So we'll start with a disclosure of - Yes, I understand that this is an American Chinese restaurant. Regardless of what the signs say. There are authentic restaurants in the area, but, Red Tea House needs to cater to your average suburbanite's view of "Chinese food". Got it. With that said..
When I saw they had peanut sauce wontons, I thought, perhaps, there's some nice Fujianese dishes here. That's an unusual dish for a strip mall Chinese place.
The peanut sauce wontons were okay. It really was like peanut butter, more than a sauce made with peanut butter. Not great. Won't be getting that again.
Also ordered the Yue Yang Beef since it was described as a crispy shredded beef. I was hoping for more of a stir fry, but what I got was the battered and deep fried strips you'd probably expect to get in an Orange Beef. Covered in a brown sugar/salt sauce. Precisely what I didn't want.
I'm not above ordering General Tso's chicken. Far from it. I'm usually the guy arguing that "yes, there is General Tso's in some true Chinese Cuisine". But I wasn't really in the mood for the overly sugary and overly salty American Chinese food.
It could be my fault in hoping the restaurant would be more than it was. We'll go again, so it's not a horrible place. I just think you just have to have the right...
Read moreWe ordered from this restaurant through Doordash. The delivery driver did just fine. The restaurant however, did terribly. The restaurant sent my husband shrimp instead of chicken and forgot our order of rice. This would be fine if it were remedied. However, due to it being through Doordash they couldn’t/wouldn’t correct it through delivery. We ordered delivery because we have a 4 month old at home and prefer to not drag her out and would like to spend as much time together with her as possible. The restaurant tells my husband that we can receive a partial refund through Doordash due to the incorrect order, and they will make the correct food that he can pick up. Doordash shouldn’t be paying for the restaurants mistake, but he does as they say and gets the refund. Then he heads to get the corrected order. They then tell him at the restaurant that he wasn’t to get a refund if he was going to be getting the food corrected. First off, that’s not what he was told on the phone. Second off, we paid more to have our food delivered but had to pick it up because you messed up, but you’re saying we should eat that money because we drove to pick it up after you fixed it, no. My husband talked to Doordash who let us keep the refund due to his honesty. So ultimately, the restaurant effed up, and Doordash paid for it. We won’t...
Read moreThe atmosphere is honestly warming and comfortable. I feel like most chinese resteraunts are tacky and over the top here it feels natural inviting I really don't know what it is but I love the decor and just the overall feel. For the food, service, and overall experience terrific. I think I'm gonna come here for a long time to come the egg drop soup is made so it's not that thick orange goop that has probably been sitting in a heatwell all day it's yellow and seasoned properly it's like the soup I had as a kid that I can't seem to find anymore. Pork dumplings are amazing I have tried several sushi rolls and 2 dinner chef specials all have been very amazing. Honestly for the money it is worth every dime!! No wonder he has been open for so long. Don't ever change guys!! Update I wrote the last review 3 years ago and have been going here ever since. After three years I still think this is a top notch place. I honestly have never gotten something bad tasting or not flavorful it amazes me that anyone could say that. Every time consistently the food is fresh and tastes amazing. I can not express how much I truely enjoy this place. I wanted to add some pictures. (Pork fried dumplings, Shrimp and scallop with mushroom, Mongolian Lamb) Again thank you guys I will be coming...
