Backstreet Cafe — Restaurant in Muldraugh

A nice place for a long conversation. Overall this café is just a nice slice of americana. The food is good, simply prepared and plated. Their breakfast plates are great.

Overall, the restaurant's biggest needs for improvement are ingredient quality and presentation. With just a bit more care, the lunch menu could stand out. As it was, food was bland and it seemed hastily prepared. The place has made obvious investments in decorating, and the food needs to be improved to match.

Service was a bit slow for a Tuesday lunch. We waited about 35 minutes for a cheese steak sandwich and a taco salad. The meals didn't come out together for our party of two.

The seasoned fries are 👍, but I recognize them as one of the standard Sodexo types.

The taco salad looks good but lacks depth. The ground beef was overdone and bland, and the refried beans in the salad is probably a miss. To improve, use fresh avocado instead of green squeeze sauce and use more lettuce and tomatoes. Black beans and corn with some cilantro are way cooler than the canned-type brown refried beans Some diced green onion would liven it up also.

The cheese steak sandwich was about the "okayest" sandwich ever. It had good ingredients. If it was my menu, I might have made it a little special by toasting the cheese into the bun on the grill.

Also got the spice cake. Good but like the rest of the menu, it didn't stand out much. A drizzle of caramel or some walnuts to garnish before serving would make it...

We chose this restaurant because it was close to the haunted park we were going to. It really was the only thing close that wasn’t fast food. It was obvious the young lady waiting on us was new to the position. She had little knowledge about the menu and had a hard time checking us out when we went to pay the bill. It was my partner, myself and our 2 children, plus 2 friends of my oldest. They were out of lettuce, tomatoes and cod. So the salads myself and my daughter wanted were out of the question. The 2 friends decided to split a buffalo pizza, minus the blue cheese. Well, when the pizza came, it was covered in blue cheese. So they had to wait for another pizza which was literally a cracker crust with some chicken, cheese and buffalo sauce. They ate some just to be able to eat something. The only thing that was actually prepared correctly was the double cheese burger my youngest ordered. We spent almost $100 total for 6 people and the food was definitely not as good as the price tag, especially with the fact my sandwich was wrong and we had almost 2 pizzas just sitting on our table when we left because they couldn’t get it right. I had the best breakfast I have had in a long time. Very good country ham & the biscuits & gravy was excellent. Our waitress was exceptional. The prices are moderate, but fair. Very clean place.

2/19/22, my wife had the Jagger Snitzel , mac n cheese, green beans, and German potato salad, plus the Raspberry Choclate Pie. I had a BLT with crinkle cut fries , coffee, and a piece of homemade strawberry cake. Very very good food. Our waitress was excellent and made us feel right at home. I didn't get her name, but she was small, had very long branded hair and spoke with a gentle voice . She also bowed as a sign of respect. That alone is worth the trip to eat out.
