I have lived in the area for 4 years, I’m originally from Astoria, NY which is known for its greek food…when I first arrived here and ate from main st grill I was actually impressed that the flavors were pretty spot on, authenticity not so much but I didn’t care because the pork chops were amazing. I’ve always gotten the pork chops because in my opinion it’s the tastiest option and the best bang for your buck there because this place is RIDICULOUSLY expensive for the area, cost is higher than most high end restaurants in the area even compared to NYC prices this is expensive ($22 for a gyro?!?) and if you’ve been in it, you know it’s not high end. So because of the prices I only order from them when I’m looking for greek flavor. I just got my usual dinner from them last night and I can’t express enough how disappointed I am….their veggies have always been oily but they usually have good flavor which is why I never really minded but the veggies were just sitting in a POOL of oil. The Grecian toast tasted like stale bread drenched in oil. The pork chops were inconsistently cooked, one was as dry as the Sahara desert and the other was perfectly cooked. My daughters spaghetti and meatballs were not good. The meatballs were very dense, the spaghetti sauce did not taste good, too much water and it tasted like it came straight from a can. The crab Rangoon was something I used to always look forward to because the sauce seemed homemade the the filling used to be so amazing. I swear to you these tasted and looked like they had gone bad, one of them had very dried out, fishy tasting filling, over fried and greasy. The prices are outrageous and the food is far from good now but the owner seems very passionate about his food and I do hope he takes this into consideration and puts out better quality food going forward, I won’t rule them out forever, I’ll give them another chance next time I’m having a Greek food craving because when it’s good, it’s really good. Just needs to be more consistent for the price...
Read moreIt pains me to leave negative feedback because the staff were so pleasant and I wasn't charged for my order. Hopefully, the owner might find my input helpful.
I am very familiar with Greek cuisine because i make many traditional dishes, frequently. I ordered spanakopita and pastitsio - two comfort foods that I love.
The spanakopita filling almost seemed like creamed spinach and the centers of the triangles were cold. No hint of garlic or olive oil.
The pastitsio was dreadful. I actually asked if it had been microwaved and the waitress said that it hadn't. Pastitsio is a labor-intensive casserole made with very specific ingredients including heavy cream, nutmeg, and hollow noodles like spaghetti. It is layered in a very specific way and then baked to a savory perfection. What I got tasted like old metallic Ragu, disintegrated ziti noodles that had the texture of library paste, about a tablespoon of tasteless beef that barely qualified as meat, and a topping of some sort that was not the luscious cheese bechumel that one would expect.
The grilled zucchini was the only part of the dish that was actually tasty and ...fresh. The risotto was gooey and either old or poorly prepared. "Greek garlic bread" was a slice of Italian bread brushed with oil and bits of garlic - no sreaming pita bread and olive oil.
My recommendations are: Minimize the menu Source meats and produce locally, including lamb Make pastitsio the morning of with fresh, quality ingredients that are traditional and don't be stingy with the meat Never use canned sauces - it takes very little effort to make a quick tomato sauce with Roma tomatoes.
This place has potential - REAL potential and the staff are courteous and willing to please their customers.
I hope that the owner contemplates some changes and reduces his menu to something more manageable and...
Read moreThis place is truly amazing! It's a little hole in the wall here in Muncy but the food is the BEST Mediterranean/Greek food I've had in a long time. I moonlighted at a Greek/Italian restaurant in San Diego many years ago; the food was great! The owners were of Greek and Italian descent so they knew their stuff. I lived in Bahrain for a year and got to experience first hand all kinds of cuisine including Mediterranean... I say all that to say this- the food at Main Street Grille has the BEST Gyro and Hummus I've ever had, including my travels overseas. The chefs are outstanding and friendly and the staff are super friendly and professional. Yes, it is pricey BUT the food is well worth it! If you live in the Williamsport/Lycoming County area and you want some good authentic Mediterranean/Greek food, or just something different, you NEED to check this...
