I used to love Maya’s back then it was a family place and they were so nice. A while back the service became bad and we didn’t have good dining experiences but we kept ordering to go, I order the same thing all the time.. 2 chilaquiles orders every week, but for some reason this time I went they were trying to charge me $6 for salsa when I always order them with a little extra sauce .. $6!!! For a bit of extra salsa on the chilaquiles. The worse part is that when I came back to ask them why they were charging me so much the waitress with the light brown reddish hair and the owner we’re talking bad about me saying that “people these days don’t want to pay anything” and they didn’t realize I was in there, when the waitress saw me she gave me a bad look and walked away. I HATE CONFLICT I don’t like it, but I felt this was unfair to just do this. There was another waitress with black hair who tried taking care of me and she told me normally they will only Charge $1 for extra salsa and when she went to the back to try talking to the owner to help me he yelled at her and told her to tell me to leave the food there. I was so upset I was having such a good day and couldn’t believe this was happening. He kept yelling afterwards in the kitchen but never even came to say anything to me directly. So the waitress gave me a refund and I was told he said to leave the food. Being a loyal client I couldn’t believe how badly I was treated, I know I will NEVER go back there again!! When I got home my dad also told me the last time he went that same lady was super rude to him he ended up leaving. I don’t know what happened to this place that used to be so friendly but I can say they lost a...
Read moreMaya's restaurant is a great neighborhood restaurant in Mundelein. First, what I found unique about this place is the variety of orders on the menu. Second, thier tacos are delicious!
It's very hard for my wife and I to enjoy true Mexican food while the kids are forced to choose from a limited menu of cheese quesidillas or chicken nuggets. This place has a full menu similar to I-Hop or Denny's. While we're having our tacos, my one daughter is having a hamburger, while my other is having eggs, bacon and pancakes with her chocolate milk. Everyone is happy!
Not only are their tacos yummy, but they also offer more selections like arrachera, which is different from carne asada, and barbacoa. One of my favorites is the lengua. I usually order the three taco dinner and order one of each. Another unique thing is the salsa/sauces that they will bring to your table with the taco order. Not only will you get the traditional green salsa, but a variety of other flavors and blends. I suggest you try them all.
Atmosphere is neighborhood friendly and parking is small, but street parking is readily available. Next door is also La Luz bakery which sells an awesome...
Read moreFirst off this place strikes you as just another small hole in the wall restraunt but after you walk in and meet the young lady at the front counter you immediately recognize this is going to be a special magical place to eat at. The customer service here is bar none in my opinion. From the seating of my family to taking our order , we were treated with respect and it had the feeling of being at your favorite Tia's house just better. The food was put together quickly but had much preparation and love added to it. The taste of everything was as it looked ... Delicious. In an area where I was questionable on finding a great tasting Mexican restaurant, I was surprised and also double surprised because they serve American style cuisine here as well. The young ladies gave us top treatment and offered great advice on where to shop. We even had to stop again there today and we picked up some Pozole which was a wonderful treat on a gloomy raining day and to top it off these folks added some tasty tostadas. This is a place where you must try if your in the area , you owe it to your self! Just trust me and you will not be...
