La Luz Bakery — Restaurant in Mundelein

Tonight was our 3rd time here, first time buying and trying their individual cakes. Wow, excellent. We have only had donuts before which were very good also. Not used to a Hispanic bakery. Wish I knew what everything was. I guess over time I will if we try like we did their cake tonight.

I wish they had prices listed as how do you know what your spending as you lay it in the pan. When you come in here you pick up a large pizza pan and put the items you would like on your tray as you self serve from about 12 cases of a variety of items. It's nice they out the items in a big box individually wrapped in tissue wax paper so they don't smash into each other.

Disappointing bakeries, butcher shops, and other specialty stores have gone to wayside. Glad this bakery is open. You'll never want to buy Dunkin Donuts or other commercialized donuts again and I've never really cared for Cake Box bakery cakes I've had in the past.

Like another post said on their delicious looking cookies, they all seem to taste alike. Disappointment as I had hoped they would be more like the ones I grew up with at a former bakery called Schellins. That was near O'Hare Airport growing up, sadly closed I suspect 30 years ago.

Not good service. The lady at counter was rude and even after ordering the cake 1week before. I could see that the cake box with my name had some other cake and she gave our cake without a proper box.

I asked can I speak to manager and she said she is the manager in a very rude tone.

I do see few recent comments mentioning about the rude service and also comment from the owner that they have fired the lady but it seems like either she is back or nothing was done.

Funny part is first time when I went to order cake I could feel that service was not good. As the same lady was looking at her phone ignoring customers all together.

I still ordered because I heard the 3 milk cake is real good, ignoring the rude and bad experience.

Service is really really bad. You guys need to do something about it!!

3 milk cake was...

I went to buy a cake during their normal business hours but they had none available. I went at a different time and a cake was available. A woman at the counter was wiping around the cake with a not so clean towel without any gloves on. She spoke over the cake the whole time while she wiped it dry of milk. A man came out whom I asked to write something. He also did that without any gloves on. The handle cash and touch food without ever washing their hands. The cake was awful. It was bitter. The milk was not soaked up by the cake and it was running everywhere. The taste of the cake was unacceptable, though it looked pretty. Their service is also bad with no interest of selling. They charge higher if you pay by credit card. Not buying from here again. Wasted $40 but...
