Camino Real — Restaurant in Murfreesboro

Camino Real has better than average Mexican food. Most Mexican food in TN tastes like American food that was Mexified (melting American cheese, refrying beans). But not Camino Real - they try a bit harder than most.

For the discerning palate, the rice and beans are nearly authentic - at least to West Coast Mexico food standards. But sometimes the rice doesn't taste fresh - even though they claim it is made fresh every day.

Service is spotty - as in sometimes great & sometimes so bad you wonder why you ate there. Also, they don't seem to employ many female servers. I have friends that want a female server when we go out (they arent sexist - just enjoy interacting with women) but finding a female server at a Camino Real is difficult.

The prices keep going up while the quality of the food goes down. The Chile poblanos used to be AMAZING!! Now they are just so-so and I believe it's because they are no longer made fresh to order & are frozen ahead of time. The salsa used to have more ingredients & was the tiniest bit spicy. Now it is so bland a baby could eat it.

FOOD POISONING. Hate to have to do this, but I went though hell for 3 days because of some type of food poisoning from here. And I know proof positive that it came from here because a co-worker and I went to lunch here on Thursday and that's the only food we had been around together (no office snacks, etc). By Friday night we both got horribly sick. We didn't know this until coming back to work and talking about our horrible weekends of sickness. After comparisons were made, we discovered that we had gotten sick on the exact same hour and it lasted exactly the same leghth of time...and of course the fact that we had eaten lunch at the same place. I have eaten at Camino Real for years and love the restaurants and have always given them good ratings. But I have to be honest here and chastise them. I've been coming here for years. Never had a bad experience until today. I will not be back. This one is for the regulars... How many times have you walked in the side door and gotten greeted? You ask to sit outside, and they say yes? (They always do.) Well this time, I got told yes and then 2 different girls come out to tell us we need to come to the front first. We say okay. The 2nd girl repeats it again in the most rude way after I told her repeatedly that the first guy we talked to said it was okay. She carried on still being rude, I even offered to move inside and still got treated like trash.. So, we got up and left.
