March 7, 2020: Dined with my daughter tonight. She had Hibachi Vegetables which came with fried rice, Miso Soup, and Salad. I was not very hungry and had some Won Ton Soup. The Hibachi Vegetables were perfectly cooked Al Dente and the sauce was not too heavy to overpower the vegetables. The rice was as good as any we've had at other spots and the salad crisp and fresh. The ginger dressing (which is their own special recipe) is incredible with an orange ginger flavor. The Won Ton soup was good...and had five Won Ton in it. I also got to try a sample of fried butterfly shrimp and their Yum Yum sauce...man they were really good!
Feb 2020: Visited the newly opened No. 1 Chinese Restaurant at 1144 Fortress Blvd. Ying (owner) was most welcoming and I looked over an extensive menu that includes your standard Chinese fares along with Hibachi meals. Of special note was a Diet Section with steamed dishes and no salt. I decided to try the Bourbon Chicken combo which included Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. I did request Chicken Fried Rice and Ying took care of the change with no change in price. While I was waiting for my meal, she offered me a sample of their Hot & Sour Soup. I am not a fan of very spicy items, and when I see a dish in red on a menu with the little jalapeno I normally pass but she said it was not too spicy. Honestly…this was a really good soup, just the right amount of heat so that you could enjoy the flavors in the soup. The Bourbon Chicken was delicious with very tender chunks of chicken in a sweet bourbon sauce. What I liked about this dish was the large pieces of tender chicken, this allowed the sweet bourbon flavor to really come through. The fried rice was good and I really liked the egg roll. This is a family run restaurant and the folks here are really nice…this is not your standard Chinese...
Read moreI feel like…this place is under new ownership or management because the food is not the same. The mood is not the same. In a previous, earlier review…I raved about the chicken wings and even got family out of towners addicted. The CHICKEN WINGS are definitely not the same. And I can say this because we ordered them once a week for well over a year. I ordered this week…they’re smaller, they taste different and they look different. The previous owners/employees knew us by name. Always had a pleasant vibe when we came in. Knew WHO we were when came in. Answered the phone on 1…maybe 2 rings if it was busy. Caller I D had her saying ‘Hey Tiffany’ like we were friends. It was so welcoming and great customer service. These new people has a vibe like what you want…10min. I can’t say for sure, but I miss them. Their lo mein is different…it’s sweeter, the noodles are lighter and less veggies, HOWEVER the taste is more comparable with the last, but still noticeably different. But the chicken wings were our favorite so unfortunately we won’t be purchasing those anymore.
Update: The new owners found the old recipe! Lol! Happy again.
Update 10.23.25 KEEP THIS LO MEIN RECIPE!! It's not too sweet like before. The meat to veggie ratio is excellent, as I only get house Whoever cooked this tonight around 6pm, keep them!! This is SOLID! A1! THE...
Read moreTried this for the first time tonight for our cheat NYE dinner. Food was great and price was even better. We ordered two combos: (1) sweet and sour chicken with wonton soup and fried rice and (2) general tso's chicken with egg roll and pork fried rice. The general tso's came with broccoli and the chicken was pre-tossed in the sauce while the sweet and sour chicken had the sauce on the side (which seems to be standard). Our portions were overfilled and we definitely felt as though we could have split one combo between the two of us but we are looking forward to our leftovers! We were also given 2 portions of the wonton soup, which was a welcome surprise. I took one star off because we did end up waiting almost an hour for our food instead of the estimated 20 minutes, but they did give us free drinks to make up for the wait. Not sure if the delay was due to the holiday (they were pretty busy and the phone was ringing non-stop with call in orders) so we may consider trying again on a day that isn't a holiday. The workers were kind and seemed to be doing their best, thank you for that and happy new...
