Rudys on the Square — Restaurant in Murray

Man... I feel bad saying this (because I'm always trying to review places as highly as I can), but I am just so unimpressed by this place. It is not for visitors or people new to town. I went here for the first time last year when we moved here. I was a mom alone with two very small children. Both my kids were thirsty, hungry, and fussy. My son (3 yrs) was crying off and on because he wanted water. We sat down and it took about 3 minutes before someone came to talk to us, I quickly told them that we needed some water right away. Then I was just counting down the minutes waiting for water. Keep in kind that this was the end of July. It was 12 minutes before we got our water from someone who was not our server; when I wanted to give my order she told me my server would be right with me. Then it was another 9 minutes before our server came back to get our order. During that time I watched 2 tables full of people who were obviously regulars come in (the servers were on a first-name basis with each group), get served drinks AND food before anyone had even taken my order. I was new to town, my children were hot and hungry and tired, I didn't want to leave and find some other place to go. I just can't believe that as a young mother with two small children that I was thus ignored. BOTH of those other tables that came in after us finished their food and left before we even got ours. I obviously didn't want to go back. We finally went again a couple of weeks ago because some people at my husband's job said that he should go. While the people were nice, the service was very slow. It took so long for servers to come back and get the next thing we needed, and again they stopped to chat with all the people they knew. It was not that busy that night, they could easily have been a little more attentive. While my second experience wasn't nearly as bad as my first, it certainly wasn't a great experience. And it just wasn't good enough to redeem the first experience. I guess if you're a local who knows the people here then it's a great place to go; but if you're visiting or new to town--go...

Read other reviews...wow...did I just come on an off day? There was long wait on food...but that was OK because it's cooked to order. I asked the waitress to heat my potato salad because I am strange and don't like it cold....she said yes of course....but it didn't happen. Everyone's mashed potatoes were cold. The BBQ was decent. The cornbread and dinner rolls were cold. Overall, I was not impressed at all. Maybe it was bad time one off. I won't be going back...partner Saud mcdonalds would have been better and he is sooooo not a fan of McDonald's

It would not let me reply...so I am editing to write a response to question we were asked...it was Aug 5th ...the time was approx 1 to 2 pm....the rain started in again as we were leaving, if that helps any. The hubby is not one to complain or let me complain....however, he did actually ask the potato salad sent back and reheated. Not to be gross but two of three of us had to go to bathroom, several times after leaving. It's OK don't want money refunded, as I said...maybe off day. Whatever....we just simply move on to next place. First and last time we are going there. We like to try local Mom and Pop places out. With adult child just having moved to Murray we thought it looked like nice place and sign said been in business since like 1930 (not sure but...

This is what a "home cooking" restaurant is. Through and through. Classic service, consistent yet huge menu items, breakfast all day! Not to mention the pie/cake display behind the counter that your eyes can't miss. I've had several meals from Rudy's and have not been disappointed. The variety of sides, and the quality of each one, always blows my mind. If you want something different, try the Hot Brown! But warning, a full order will make you uncomfortably full if you eat every bite... so I'm told... I didn't do that, or eat sides with it... Anyways, the Belgian waffles are fantastic. Highly recommend getting them with fruit & cream. If your parents are visiting, this is a perfect place to take them. They'll love it. Also, I've ordered delivery a couple of times with mixed results. This is NOT a reflection on Rudy's. The service I used had a driver picked, it showed they went there and waited, then after a few minutes it reset and found a new driver. That driver was quite a ways away, so our food was done for awhile before it got to us. Again, that's on the service and not Rudy's. Just be mindful that you may sacrifice a little quality depending on how well the delivery service...
