Came on a trip with a few friends and we decided to go to Russ’. Initially I was looking forward to trying it out, the hostess was very polite and kind. After waiting a couple minutes we were given a male server that was taking our drink orders for our original waitress. After getting our drinks we proceeded to wait awhile longer before our waitress Bailey came to get our food order. As time went on we kept waiting and waiting, we then got our side salads, followed by our appetizers around 3 minutes after. We then set a timer and from the time our appetizers hit the table till the time our actual meals hit the table was exactly 15 minutes. Not sounding very apologetic our server tried to apologize for the long wait yet was blaming in on the new chefs in the back. Furthermore, we were the only table in her section and yet the tables that followed us in after got their food before we did. As me and those who were with me are all in the restaurant and serving business we understand time issues and somethings are out of your control yet nothing was tried to be made right. The food was sub par and Luke warm. The group and I left upset and not very full. Also as we were walking out we seen through the kitchen door our server talking and carrying on with other servers. If your looking for a place to stop and grab something to eat on a trip then it’s an okay place but if you’re on a time schedule, want something filling and good then I wouldn’t recommend going out...

Russ’s closes at 9pm, we walked in at 8:10pm and the whole staff was shutting down. There were still customers at tables, including a family that walked in right before us. We were only there for dessert. Our waiter was rude, and our dumpling and pie was served cold. When we ordered we both asked for ice cream which was not brought to us with our dessert. When I asked where our ice cream was he apologized and said he was hard of hearing. As he walked back to the kitchen I softly said “I’m confused they don’t close until 9pm right” and our hard of hearing waiter down the hall in the kitchen says “yes we close at 9!” I thought he was hard of hearing!!?? Then we he brings us our ice cream... on one plate for the both of us... we say this is two scoops of ice cream for each of us? He said the ice cream scoops were all being washed by the kitchen staff and he only had a teaspoon to scoop our ice cream out with. Literally two teaspoons of ice cream sat on one plate for the both of us to share with our individual cold served desserts!!! No tip and will never...

Zero stars tonight. Usually it's ok. Not great but at least ok. I waited about a half hour for my sub par food. I ordered to go chicken with baked potato, which was cold after the wait. I also order a cup of soup and a bowl of soup which were just about the same. I explained and showed the the manager who just shrugged his shoulders and said "yeah pretty close." He said he'd be happy to put a little more in the "bowl" for me, but after over 30 min of waiting, I stormed out not wanting to waste more time for what would likely be 1 extra TBSP of rice. I measured it when I got home - 2/3 c in the cup and just under 1 cup for the bowl. 1.5 TBSP of actual rice in the cup and about 3.5 TBSP rice in the bowl. Total rip off. My whole meal was over $14. Completely not worth my time or money. I'll go...

Russ' is always on my list of places to stop when I come home. West Michigan (Holland) based chain sort of like a Big Boy but better with great homemade food. Some of the best battered onion rings anywhere. Great breakfast. Known for 1/3lb burgers, grilled sandwiches (Slim Gem, Reuben), entrees like fried chicken, perch, meatloaf or prime rib (once in a while) or hot turkey & beef "sandwiches" with mashed potatoes and gravy. Great soups plus pies and desserts. Disclaimer: I worked here as a cook in and after High School in the mid to late 90's and some of the people I worked with like cooks, managers & waitresses are still here if that says anything about how they are run. I still love coming here.

Are you Old? Are you White? Russ' is for you. For Breakfast, the Corned Beef Hash with Eggs is great, especially if you order it extra crispy. They have a Steak Sandwich (might have been Prime Rib) that is terrific for Lunch or Dinner. Update 2022-05-11: Although you can now pay your check at the table using an app, their point of sale system still requires your payment card to be swiped through a slot in the side of the cashier's screen. Their is NO EXCUSE for continuing to use such archaic tech, when chip cards (EMV) have been available for years. They need to stop putting their customers' financial data at risk and upgrade!

This place is great eatin for me! Hadn't been there before this week, and it's a new favorite spot of mine! Plan to bring my friends back. Thank you. Waitresses and staff are friendly and helpful. A cook even rang me out! He saw I was ready to go. Surprised me. He could have turned back around and left it for the hostess. Opening at 630 is so perfect for my 3rd shift schedule. That was huge. 😁
