Free Veterans Day Meal | Lakeside Cafe | Muskegon Michigan #lakesidecafe #muskegoncounty #veteransdaymeal #servingveterans #free #veteransday

I stopped for lunch on a Tuesday and the place was busy. I was seated at the counter and the server came right over and took my drink order. I asked her which hot sandwich she would recommend, and she said Turkey so that’s what I went with. My food came right out, and everything looked good. The bread was homemade and thick cut, and the turkey was shredded. The mashed potatoes tasted homemade because they were a little lumpy. The only thing I really didn’t care for was the gravy and potatoes together. I know it sounds crazy, but when I tried the turkey and bread with the gravy, everything tasted good. When I ate the potatoes and gravy together, for some reason, it tasted a bit sour. I ate some of the potatoes without the gravy and they tasted good. I cannot explain this, but it’s what it was. The server asked if I liked my meal because my potatoes were left, and I told her the story. She brought me my check and had discounted it because of what happened. I told her that I didn’t want that, I wanted to pay full price because it didn’t make sense, and everything looked so good. She insisted and reduced my ticket. I added the discounted food price to my tip. This place is really clean and very well kept. The food really did look and as far as the turkey, tasted great. If I am ever back in town, I would stop here again to give them another chance as they had a very extensive menu. Overall, this place is worth a try, the servers are wonderful, at least the one I had was.

Nice well-lite, clean restaurant. Service was good, checking in with us often to make sure our coffee cups were filled. I got the Cajun Shrimp, which the menu stated was "Poached eggs, Cajun shrimp served on an English Muffin, topped with Spicy Hollandaise". I love a good hollandaise sauce, in fact that is why I ordered it, but it tasted like they mixed Buffalo Wild Wings sauce into their hollandaise, and way too much at that. It was terrible tasting. I'm not one to send something back, so I focused on what was good about the dish... the shrimp and eggs were perfectly cooked. If you like BWW sauce on your breakfast, they you will love this, if not, don't order. My husband got 2 eggs sunny side up, sausage patties with toast and thought it was nothing to write home about. We would not visit this place again; I'm surprised their overall rating is a 4.6. perhaps we just visited there on a bad day.

Regular customer at this establishment. We waited over 20 minutes with a group of 6, with our name on the list to be seated. During this time there was a 6 top table not being used as we waited. No reservation sign,no mention at the time of signing in that the Only 6 top table was being "reserved". Had we known perhaps we could have been seated differently. After glancing at the empty table again 20mins later and overhearing a discussion that the table was being held.I asked if the table was not in service? The young lady went to inquire when a group of 5 walked in the door, cut in front of me and went immediately to the 6 top table we had been waited to be seated at. That groups name wasn't on the list and when questioned why we weren't told that in the beginning and why people we being seated after us. We were told "you're a 6 top!" We seated groups of 2. Ok so at what point did anyone plan on seating us? After the group of 5 whose name Was not on the list ate and finished their meal? While our group of 6 including 2 children just waited. We were not even offered to be seated as a 2 table and 4 table etc. We are regulars. This is our kid's spot. When you tell us one week we cannot be seated until our "whole" party arrives to the next week " you're a 6 top" who is waiting for groups not even listed in the sign in sheet. What gives? Great food sure. Great service yes at times. Friendliness no way because how can you just walk past kids waiting to be seated and say nothing at all...

Lakeside Cafe is our favorite restaurant in town. It's not fancy, but the food is great! You can't beat their Wednesday burger special which is normally $6 for burger, fries and a drink. Each week for the special they come up with a unique offering, which I always look forward to. But you can choose any burger on the menu. And they'll sub something else if you don't want fries. (They've been forced to raise the price a little with the current spike in beef prices during Covid-19, but I'm sure it will come back down.) I also love their breakfasts, which they serve all day. Their bread is homemade! And they have gluten free options.

But I have to say, the best thing about Lakeside Cafe is their staff. There's not a lot of turnover, so it's great to see the familiar smiling faces every time we go there. They're very conscientious about my dietary restrictions and have even reminded me at times when I've forgotten to specify or didn't know there was gluten in an item. Their care for their customers really shines through. One time I left my purse there and they looked me up on Facebook and sent me a note through Messenger to let me know they had found it!

So, in short, great food and great people! Please patronize...
