I almost never leave reviews but felt compelled to share the following:
The food was mediocre and over priced for what you get. The lettuce and tomatoes on my burger were not fresh even though I ate immediately after being served. There were rotten bits of lettuce all throughout. The bun was very dry and burnt. The greasy loose fries in the bottom of the bag are a terrible idea, just sloppy. (You have to pay extra for fries in a separate container, according to the owner.) One of my friends ordered chili cheese fries and said it tasted like cheap canned chili, not worth the price. The mac and cheese was underwhelming in every way noodles in cheese sauce can be. Spruce Street Bar and Grill serves much better burgers/food.
After dining here, I learned that the owner, Adam Palmer, also owns the Blue Heron Bistro, a "German" (quotes to indicate it is far from authentic) restaurant in Coos Bay. Filter those google reviews by lowest ratings and read Mr. Palmer's unhinged replies to customer reviews. Not just 1 star reviews either, some 3 and 4 star reviews have recieved childish, snarky replies. He will read a person's entire review posting history, just to trash talk or attempt to discredit them. His replies are extremely narcissistic and show a profound lack of self awareness or professionalism. I will never return to either of his establishments and will continue to inform our community of how Mr. Palmer treats customers who dare to give less than 5 stars. No doubt, this location will rely on tourism revenue just like his Coos Bay restaurant because locals know better than to give their hard earned money to a man who clearly has no respect for them and can't even serve a decent meal at a reasonable price. Spend your money somewhere more deserving, folks. Spruce Street, Railroad Cafe, and Fat Alberts are all better options. Anywhere but here.
Edit: No idea what Mr. Palmer is talking about below. I deleted my Facebook account fifteen years ago and never looked back. He just makes stuff up.
To borrow a quote from the owner's response, "Publicly expressing disparaging remarks towards others based on perceived self-importance is not conducive to a professional environment." This is what they call "projection." Please take your own...
Read moreIt’s a sunny day on the Oregon Coast when I get to leave an unreserved 5 star review about anything…much less a burger in Myrtle Point.
Let me set the table here, I live and die for sandwiches and burgers. I travel for them. I critique them. I always want to find the best version of any sandwich.
This burger is fantastic…and any great burger starts with local, never frozen beef. But the difference between great and fantastic lies in the small details.
A smear of tallow on the insides of the bun before toasting? PRO MOVE
A nice crusty potato bun. Soft inside. Toasted brown on the inner, nice a firm on the outside. A bun has to contrast what it’s holding…this ratio is top tier. All y’all saying it’s dry are missing the importance of texture. Brioche is trash. Homemade potato is king.
Thinly sliced tomatoes. Shredded Lettuce. Never underestimate how key this is. Fat slices of tomatoes derail sandwiches. These are thin enough to bite thru without triggering a sandwich avalanche.
A burger sauce that’s not sweet…at all. Pickles that are sour and salty, and again, are sliced thin.
This is the best bite of food I’ve had on the Oregon Cost since moving here. It’s worth every penny, and anyone who complains about a quality burger and fries for $13 is completely detached from the reality of food costs and restaurant ownership. I wouldn’t bat an eye at $16. In a city it’d be $22.
My only suggestion is to put a paper boat or foil in the bottom of the bag for the fries. Work it into your price, you have room to charge more for what you’re selling.
There’s a couple former high level chefs that now live in MP, and they’re all on board with this place. I’m so stoked this...
Read moreBeen wanting to stop here when we found out they opened when we go to the coast. Tried on our way out to the coast Sunday, but was unable to stop due to Myrtle Point's parking situation if you are pulling a camp trailer etc. Not the establishments fault at all. So we were determined to stop on our way back home today (Thursday). We had more time and found a spot fairly close to park. To clarify there were 2 of us couples. So 2 trucks pulling trailers. I'm SO glad we had that determination. The food was superb! It looked so delicious we had to start digging in that we forgot to take pics! The presentation was beautifully done. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. I'm personally not a fry kind of person, but their fries were awesome. Not soft not too hard. The perfect crisp and seasoning. The customer service was outstanding! Very friendly and made sure we were satisfied. We will definitely be a returning customer! Between all of us we had the chicken bacon ranch, Karrisa burger, western burger, and bacon...
