If you're an older guy like me, then you probably recall what the hotels in this country were like, back in the 1950's and 60's. Uniformly neat, clean, and well-organized, run by people who took pride in doing their best to make your stay a pleasant one. And all for a reasonable price. Remember?||||Well, if you thought those places don't exist anymore, I'm here to tell you that the proud American past still lives at the Myrtle Trees Hotel. Stayed there last night and was in awe of the entire experience, from the friendliness of the front desk staff to the excellent bed and immaculate room that was as quiet as a cave. Absolutely PERFECT for a good night's sleep.||||||But it was the little details of the place that really bowled me over. Remember when hotels used to provide individually paper-wrapped GLASS bathroom glasses? They have those here! They even had the little paper strip around the toilet seat that read: "Sanitized for Your Protection." Remember when every hotel had those? Even the soap had that distinctive early 60's smell. Such wonderful feelings of nostalgia swept over me as I encountered these remnants from a cleaner, kinder, more thoughtful American hotel tradition that has virtually disappeared, only to be found in a few very rare places, like the Myrtle Trees Hotel.||||The next day I saw the hotel grounds, perfectly manicured, the grass gleaming brightly in the morning sun of a perfect Oregon day. Puffy white clouds and all. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Located in one of the more scenic corners of the state, if you want to experience the wonderful way hotels and motels in this country used to be, do yourself a favor...
Read moreThe motel has a beautiful view. The grounds are very tidy and well maintained. Our room was clean, smelled clean, had new or well cared for furniture, the bed was comfortable, and cozy. The woman that checked me in over the phone asked if I wanted her to turn the heat on in our room prior to our later arrival, the room was the perfect temperature when we arrived. Our family had been traveling for a week prior and had stayed in five hotels. I wish there had been a Myrtle Trees Motel in each place we had visited the prior week but I'm glad we had the opportunity to stumble on this little gem. And as a mom that was traveling with two smaller kids, I have a "thing" about clean floors, little kids are always wallering around on the ground for one reason or another. Our room Myrtle Trees Motel had CLEAN floors/carpet! In some of the hotels we had been in prior that week, I had to scrub the kid's feet after they walked around barefoot in the room, it was gross! Thanks MTM for keeping...
Read moreFrom the beginning, the motel was very easy to find/see from the main road in the dark and from there it just got better. The older gentleman at the office was kind and too the time to hear me ramble even though I had clearly woken him up in the middle of the night. Walking to our room was pleasant and the frogs croaking down the hillside gave us a peaceful feeling. The room smelled great without a hint of anything having been smoked in it and it was CLEAN. The soft beds were wrapped with clean blankets and crisp sheets and were adorned with thick pillows that had cases as crisp as the sheets. There wasn't a lot of noise, which allowed us to drift off quickly to, and stay asleep. With the first light of the day, the plethora of well taken care of, vibrantly colored flowers and the picnic tables along the edge of the parking area gave the motel a down home, country picnic feel that was inviting. If you need a place to stay for a night or a week, this should be your...
