Kinfolks Restaurant — Restaurant in Nacogdoches

Nice, restaurant with a small town atmosphere. I ate here first while staying at the hotel next door (a FEMA Hurricane Harvey evacuee) with my daughter. Between the two of us we have eaten the cheesburgers, patty melts, french fries, tator tots (her always with cheese), several variations of their breakfast menu (which they serve all day), the lunch special on numerous occasions, baked potatoes (fixings on the side, if requested), and the hamburger steak with brown gravy and onions on at least 3 occasions, that I remember. We have literally never had anything we ordered taste bad or have any issue with something ordered, with only one exception. I ordered their breakfast burrito on several occasions and always requested no meat of any kind on it...only potatoes, eggs, and cheese with picante sauce on the side. I always ordered it for to-go and on one occasion they put sausage and bacon on it with the eggs, potatoes and cheese that I requested. After trying to take off as much bacon and sausage as I could (with little success) I called back over and told them the issue. They remade my burrito without the meat and it was great...problem solved. My daughter and I would both recommend anyone from out of town to eat at least a breakfast and a lunch/dinner meal here if possible. It is worth driving from the south side of town if you are staying in one of the many hotels located off Loop 224 and Hwy 59 South. In my opinion, it is well worth it. Waitresses are friendly and keep the drinks refilled and the cooks are quick and serve up the orders fresh and hot. You can't help but make this place a favorite spot to dine. 5 stars...

This place is dismal! The food is absolutely bland. Either the cooks here simply don't know how to cook, or the restaurant isn't making enough money to spend on seasoning, superior product and proper training of it's staff. The last time I ate here not only did the mashed potatos taste like potato salad, but the okra was cold AND undercooked. And then there is the fact it took over an hour to get our food when we were 2 out of 5 customers there at the time, another 2 of which had already gotten their food!

Then there is the service. If one were to ignore the fact that the wait staff seem to show an almost passive agressive cold shoulder to anyone who isn't a regular customer, that they know is a good tipper, one might almost think of the wait staff as attentive. It is overly clear that these servers only care about the tips they know they usually make with regular, high tipping customers, as apposed to providing exallent service.

What we can see here is a trend that is almost universal with small towns. People will grow up around the style of food that is most popular in thier area, the large majority of restaurants in that area will offer that style of cooking and because there aren't that many competitors in a small town, even some of the worst food and service is accepted as normal, or worse yet, good.

If only Google would allow me to give a 0 star review, and trust me, I'm being kind, because I would like to give them a -2 star review if that...

First time coming in yesterday and also last. I order the fish dinner, mashed potatoes, and pink lady. Fish was bland with no seasoning, mashed potatoes tasted like old baked potatoes that had been half smashed and also had no flavor the pink lady fruit salad was weird it definitely was not fresh as the pineapples were brown and the pecans were soggy and the hush puppies were raw. The best thing about my meal was the tartar sauce. There was also drama between the kitchen and wait staff. They were not busy but our waitress forgot everything we asked her. I had to ask for a to go box twice she then took it to the wrong table we asked for teas to go we never even got those. My husband ordered a waffle with his food which they forgot then said it was just back there cooking the cook then tells the waitress he could have the one that she tore to pieces or she could cook him another one. The waitress then comes to our table and tells my husband he may or may not get his waffle and we will see. A man at the table beside us asked for a coffee refill a few times she never came back and was just all over the place doing nothing. Then she walks over and asks if he wanted more coffee to which he replied yes if you're actually going to bring it this time. 10/10 do not recommend bland food nasty food, inattentive wait staff, and the drama between kitchen and wait staff was...
