I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area and have been starved for a decent meal since I moved here. While my favorite food is Asian, if you've been to that area and have eaten there you would know why. So, I decided to look on the net for Nashville's best Chinese food and China Spring got five stars. I had never eaten there but what I have had from other Asian restaurants here and all I can say is "lawd have mercy!" So today, I purchased food for me and my family. If you cannot fix vegetables, it's really simple, just close your doors. Nobody cleaned their plates and when we were done we looked at each other, then got up and went to our separate bedrooms to lie down from a terrible meal. That food WILL join tonight's trash! I know this much, I am going home in a few months and I will make sure I get enough REAL Asian food with fusion of flavor, color and freshness like nobody's business!!! Hole in the walls THROW THE FRICK DOWN THERE!!!! The food I will bring back will after 5 days hands down whoop what I purchased today from China Spring that was supposed to be fresh! I will NEVER eat or order from this place EVER again in life!! I need Pepto, Tums and ANYTHING else to fix this horrible mistake of a greasy, overcooked, one note flavored, soggy everything (the broccoli and spring rolls needed JESUS!!) meal! I need a CLEANSE!!! ALL DAY NASTY!!! Run Forrest RUN!!! This is NOT good food but if this is the best in Nashville then I'm on a FOREVER diet from...
Read moreNo longer serving pizza - This restaurant tried to fill the void caused by the closing of Sicily's Pizza by serving it themselves, but apparently customers got confused by pizza takes longer than Chinese food and got mad. I say everyone in Castlegate demand they start serving pizza again, this time with a clock for each type of order. See my old review for how awesome it was when they served pizza and Chinese food - OLD REVIEW FOLLOWS - NOW SERVING PIZZA! Sicily Pizza, which used to be right next door for year, sadly closed. I thought there was no neighborhood pizza left in Castlegate, but the China Spring bought a pizza oven and basically replicated Sicily Pizza's old menu. IT ... IS ... AWESOME. You can order a calzone and WonTon Soup. You can order stromboli and Peking duck. You can order pepperoni pizza and General Tso chicken ... all at the same time! The wait staff is very friendly and clearly loves the neighborhood. Prices are rock bottom. They even have the same awesome $5 lunch special as Sicily Pizza used to, but now they added some Chinese food options. Castlegate needs to patronize this place because if they go under, then we are stuck with Subway and...
Read moreI liked this place when I went a few months back. I'm not sure what happened. It was TERRIBLE this time. The egg drop soup was very bland. It's not the spiciest food on the planet normally but I usually can jazz it up with some Sriracha. Which brings me to my second complaint-- NO SRIRACHA!!!
What kind of Chinese/Thai place doesn't have Sriracha? That's like a Burger joint not having ketchup. Ridiculous!
To add insult to injury the little crispy noodles that come with the soup were VERY STALE & unedible. That's usually my favorite part of a good Egg Drop Soup is the little fried noodles you sprinkle on top. These were so old they were chewy-- not crispy. Yuck!
The Chicken in the Lo Mein I ordered had a pretty "funky" taste to it, as if it was starting to spoil. It wasn't all the way rotten yet, just starting to turn rotten. It went straight in the trash can. I've had food poisoning before from a little place like this, and it's not something I ever want to revisit.
All in all, it was just a pretty awful experience. Needless to say, I will not...
