City Cafe East — Restaurant in Nashville-Davidson

Feb 18, 2022: Had lunch at City Cafe East in Nashville…some of the BEST Meat & Three and soups you’ll find in Middle Tennessee! But once a month George does some brisket smoking and every once in awhile some smoked bologna. So today lunch was some chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes and Mac & Cheese…and it was delicious. But for take-out…some of George’s awesome brisket and smoked bologna! Well worth a visit to the South side of Nashville for some incredible food.

2016: City Cafe East - Awesome Catering by George – Nashville. This place is INCREDIBLE. I have been enjoying George’s brisket for a few months but have not have the opportunity to actually eat there. BIG MISTAKE!!! Went with my buddy and I chose the smoked/BBQ Bologna, Sweet Potatoe Casserole, Mac & Cheese, and Red Beans & Rice. It was very difficult to drive back to Murfreesboro as I was in a food coma. Bottom line…you’ve gotta eat here if you are looking for an excellent Meat & Three where emphasis is placed on quality and served with a smile. Was also a pleasure to meet George and Amy while I was there plus take home some brisket and a couple of extra slabs of the bologna.

One of the best Meat & Three places I have been to in...

Oklahoma burger: Decent, 4/5 (from someone who never had OK burger before). Ordered without pickles and with sauce on side. Unlike a regular smash burger, this had thicker patties and the charred side without onions was exactly that: charred/burnt instead of crispy with Maillard reaction. And unlike a regular smash burger, American cheese didn’t work well here because there was a contrast with the natural flavor from all the onions. The latter highlighted/brought out the processed flavor of the cheese. When I added the sauce, it all did go well together. The humble onion was definitely the star of the show.

Truffle fries: 2/5. The fries were very crispy, so their regular fries must be good. The truffle oil however tasted like chemicals and rancid. It ruined perfectly good fries and turned them into something hard to eat. I’m thoroughly confused about the reviews that said that they’re a must get or that they want to protect the fries...

This food is the absolute best meat and 3 ive ever placed in my mouth. It was an epic flavor explosion that only your great grandma can create. Not to mention, it was 15 minutes until close, and the customer service and friendliness were way beyond my expectations. I've never felt so welcomed in an eating establishment, especially 15 before its time to close shop. The food, even at the end of the day, was delicious. Can I brag again? Those chicken and dumplings.......OMG!!!! And Mac & Cheese and the green beans!!!! MAKES YOU WANNA SMACK YOUR MAMA goodness in every single bite!!!! I've found my new favorite spot, that's for sure. If you come to Nashville and want the southern home cooking experience, this is it, my friends....
