El Caballo De Oro — Restaurant in Neosho

We were impressed with the food we got when we ordered through Door Dash so we decided to eat in one day when we were out running errands. Big mistake! They were busy and it took about 5 minutes to get a table, no biggie. Our waiter didn't show for about 5 minutes after we were seated, he threw the basket of chips on the table, slammed down the salsa and took our drink order.

The waiter seemed annoyed with me asking a couple questions when he took our order - a friend and I were eating there and we got something to go for my husband. Food came out pretty quickly and the portions are big, especially the combination burrito I got for my husband. The taco salad my friend ordered was just okay. The chili relleno I ordered was incredibly spicy and it looked like the pepper hadn't had the seeds removed, which is probably why it was so hot. Whatever the reason, I couldn't eat it.

We wound up sitting forever when we asked for a box and my husband's burrito. My friend finally just flagged someone down to ask again; evidently the burrito had just been sitting waiting to be picked up because the bottom of the box was cold, not warm like you'd expect something recently made but since it was to-go, it wasn't a problem worth bringing up and nothing compared to the service we got.

The waiter was impatient, slow to bring our order to the table, didn't check if everything was okay or if we needed anything after he brought the food, and disappeared entirely when we were ready to get the check and leave.

Other than the chili relleno being really hot, the food here is fantastic, for the most part. But the service just sucks. Order it to go or have it delivered and avoid...

The place is large and there is plenty of parking.

Sadly though, the food is very hit and miss with more misses. For example, last night I stopped in to place a to-go order. It took 35-40 minutes. Seriously. No exaggeration.

When I got home one of the items, the king fajitas was barely room temperature almost cold. The other entrée, the chili Colorado, was nice and warm.

The King Fajitas were so cooked that the shrimp were hard eraser texture and the portion was so sparse that if you spread all the pieces across the metal container you would've still seen lots of the bottom of the container. There might have been half a dozen pieces of onion and bell pepper in the mix. Usually $13 fajita servings are generous enough to feed two people; this was good for a child or an adult with a very small appetite. Plus the meat was over cooked and cold and there was not much else there, literally a few pieces of bell pepper and onion. Oh there was also no guacamole which is customarily served with fajitas.

The Chili Colorado was equally disappointing. I was so looking forward to big, tender chunks of beef slow roasted in red sauce! Nope. I got thin strips of beef that were like jerky they were so over cooked. Then they had been tossed in a red sauce. You can't reheat old thin strips of beef and throw some enchilada sauce on it and call it...

I placed an order online to pickup in the restaurant. When I arrived, about 10 minutes after placing the order, I informed the host I had a pickup order and gave my name. They were busy and I expected to wait just a little. I ended up waiting over 30 minutes, during which time, nobody from the staff bothered to ask me about my order or even check on my order. After getting a little upset with the wait, I flagged down one of the hosts and asked him where my order was and why it was taking so long. He rushed backed to find out. The original host came up and told me the internet service went down and they didn't know about the order. I was fine with the excuse until he said it wasn't his fault. Well maybe not directly but yes, he was still at fault. Customer service is more than welcoming people and taking their money in the end. You had a customer wait for over 30 minutes for an order and never checked to see what the issue was until after the customer got upset. That is NOT good customer service. Needless to say, from the time I placed the order until the time I recieved it...
