I've been planning for weeks to come to this coffee shop with my sister. We arrived at 10:30 and the parking lot was extremely full, not sure why, when there were only 5 people(visible) including employees. We let the women at the register know that it was our first time here, and we wanted to know what her recommendations were. She was unenthused and shrugged her shoulders, and I let her know I wanted something a bit more sweet. She proceeded to ask me if I wanted something hot or cold. Once I let her know I wanted something warm she offered there speciality drink chocolate covered strawberry latte. I let her know I didn't want something extremely sweet so she reccomended her personal favorite drink an amaretto latte. I asked her what all entailed in that drink, and she let me know, and agreed to order that latte. When I got the drink I asked the barista where the stoppers were and he rudely pointed to the corner of the room. I received my drink and was completely unsatisfied. The amaretto tasted similar to cherry robuttusion, and was not sweet whatsoever. I politely went to the counter and asked the women at the register if I could get a different drink, and would pay the difference from my first drink. She looked completely confused and stated, I would have to charge you for a whole new drink. She then told me all sales were final, which I was not told or aware of. I explained my frustration, but unfortunately we didn't come to an agreement.
I left the shop unhappy with the service and the drinks. I will not...
Read moreI drive past this place on my way to my grandparents and have wanted to stop in, we found a perfect Saturday morning too. It kind of sticks out as there are houses and apartments all around, parking lots is a good size and there is a good amount of tables outside. Inside are more tables and a wall of bags of coffee for sale. Inside and outside are lots of seats but we were talking and wish they had some comfy chairs to sit in and chat.
The menu features a good amount of options for different coffee and tea drinks with various syrups and extras. There are a couple of seasonal type specials too. There is a small bakery case with treats from Beans n Cream in Madison, but there isnât much food otherwise. A couple of Kind and Cliff Bars. There is a basket for food pantry donations as well and a local business bulletin board.
When we stopped in shortly after 8am on a Saturday morning there was a steady flow of people. The line moves pretty quick and our order was ready in a short amount of time. I got an iced chai latte and my husband got a London fog latte and a breakfast scone. The scone was alright, filled with classic breakfast flavors, but not our favorite. The staff were great in explaining where the bakery items come from and so friendly. I do wish they had some other food items available but for coffee/tea, itâs a great stop!
Overall a good coffee shop but I wouldnât really stop in for more than that. I would stop again...
Read moreI have been coming to 1848 for a quick coffee for awhile now and never had a problem but this past weekend. The dude behind the counter who I assume is the owner seemed so on edge when I walked in with a big group (7 people) to each buy a coffee. He came over and rudely told us to not come in with a big group again because thatâs not what they cater to. Ok fair, I would understand that would be a problem as we were taking up 3 of the very small tables out of the 12 in there. But there was 2 other customers in the coffee shop each occupying one table. There was plenty of space for many other customers to come and get a coffee comfortably but no one was there. Personally I wonât be coming back as the owner could have handled that situation a little more professionally to say the least. Customers make or break your business and based on the multiple one star reviews talking about their negative experience with âthe male behind the counterâ I can see this has been an issue already. My suggestion is to buy your 7 dollar...
