I consider this restaurant a boutique place. Don’t go there too often but when you do it’s typically fun, and inviting. It pains me to write this. It’s a small place built in a small town burger joint reputation. It’s very definition of a small town, locally operated business.
First off went there last night and the service was terrible. The server was not very cordial or inviting as they have been in the past. She would not engage in any small talk or create a rapport. Would not even make eye contact with us. Took quite sometime for use to receive our food(party of 2). Had to get the servers attention to get a drink refill. Still then she just walked by and states “i’ll get it”. She did not even come back around to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Sad.
The restaurant has a terribly vulgar slogan “taking virginity since 1975”. When it’s your first time eating there they servers openly say, loudly “WE GOTTA VIRGIN” Come on, this is a small old school family place. Completely unnecessary. The old Hickies’ seem to have gone away. Not sure if I’ll consider eating there...
Read moreDefinitely won't be back. I asked for a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onion and mayo just to be told they don't put lettuce on the burgers. They said they only put lettuce on one of their specialty burgers and you can't special request and pay extra for it. They just wont do it. So I ordered a fish dinner. The sides are something you could buy in the store and fry up yourself. As mentioned earlier, I got the fish dinner which was all garbage you buy in save a lot or Walmart. The only thing that was homemade was the coleslaw. My husband got the sugg burger or whatever it's called. It was alright but their burgers are very tiny. They're a little bigger than a sausage patty but not much. I never got asked if I needed a refill and my husband had to ask a waitress if he could get a refill. I had such high hopes for this place. 36.89 for a fish dinner with water, 4 of the sugg or whatever burgers with onion rings (also crap from save a lot or Walmart). Such a small meal for almost 40 bucks but then again everything is expensive these days. Sorry but we won't be back. Such a...
Read moreI've been going to Hickies since it opened in 1975. Everytime that I am home to visit my Mom, I make a trip or two or three to Hickies. The ambiance is cozy, friendly, and full of historical artifacts. I get to see my mother's city council photos and my dad's old New Boston Tiger basketball team photos. This place houses photos, Glenwood High School sports decorations, and the building was once an old gas station and ice cream joint before the Hickmans took it over. The best things about Hickies is the friendly service and conversations. The service is equal to the delicious and greasy double cheeseburgers. The footers with sauce (chili), onion, and mustard are excellent. If you have more time to explore, the Big Yogi is a must! I love the chili and bean soup too. Oh and don't forget the fries drenched im brown gravy. Now you may understand why one trip just won't do when I'm I come home. Hickies gets my five...
